Aerogarden Sponge Help

I plant my seeds in my aerogardens, have 2 deluxe systems, using Frost King foam. It absorbs water well and plant roots grow right through it. I plant my seeds on the sides of the plastic insert so I can see the root growth and measure the progress. I don't see why you would need to "close" the sponge once you have placed a seed in the middle, if it's deep enough it will stay wet and germinate.
X vudu x: here's a little primer on planting seeds in your Aerogarden. First, read everything that should have come with your Aerogarden. When it comes to their unit they are the final authority and they can give you a lot of very useful information. If you're in a bind and you need immediate help you can always call Aerogarden's customer service for reliable help and it's a toll free 800 number. Just don't tell them what you're growing. If they ask, tell them you're growing your own heirloom tomato seeds.so i got an aerogarden and when im plating my seed should i pre soak the sponge? and how do you close the the whole in the sponge once I have the seed planted
Second, buy a copy of Jorge Cervantes's "MARIJUANA HORTICULTURE THE INDOOR/OUTDOOR MEDICAL GROWER'S BIBLE." I think I paid about $30 for mine at Barnes and Noble. You can get it on line too, probably here at their store as well, but then there's shopping and handling and a wait of sometimes a month. Make sure you read it cover to cover. If you do then you're going to have a lot less problems than a lot of these guys that go into this blindly. Believe me, it's no fun if you're not successful.
Last but not least, here's how I do it. I soak their growing medium in glass of warm water for about a half hour. I use their growing materials because I've found them to be very user friendly and if you buy them in bulk when they go on sale a coupld of times a year it will only cost you about .60 cents to completely outfit a seed. Soaking the grow pods usually makes them pretty pliable. A friend of mine makes a small hole all the way down the center of the growing medium but I've never found the need to do that. I do insert the seed, pointy end down, with a pair of tweezers and I push it in twice as deep as the seed is tall. My friend covers his seeds with the surrounding growing medium but I never found the need to do that. Mine sprout just as fast and as well as his. Put the grow pod/planting medium into a plastic cage and make sure you glue the label to the top of the planting cage. I usually use contact cement. The label is going to keep out enough light that you won't have mold problems but if you don't use the label you will have problems. Make sure you're getting a good flow of water to the planting hole in the planting deck of your Aerogarden before you push the cage all the way down into the hole. Cover it with a humidity dome and your seed should germinate in less than a week. The one thing about leaving the seed uncovered is that you can watch it swell and eventually break out of it shell.
