AeroGarden Pro 100 - Seems to be working (Pictures included)

Hi all,

I'm completely new to any kind of growing, so please bear with me. I bought quality "Top 44" seeds online and an Aerogarden Pro 100 as my first project. It has two cfl lights of about 1200 lumens each (full spectrum). I'm supplementing it with a 75 watt 1100 lumens cfl bulb I bought from lowe's as well. I'm using the "Gourmet Herbs" nutrients the thing came with and have been running the pump and lights almost 24/7 on "supergrow" mode.

The site I got the seeds on said the plant starts flowering in 6-8 weeks. From the little knowledge I have, I guess "flowering" means putting the lights on a 12/12 schedule.

The pictures are three weeks in. I took them today.

Questions:
1. When should I start flowering?
2. Are those gourment herb growing nutrients powerful enough?
3. Is 3000 lumens enough for growing?

Any other comments and tips on what the hell else I should be doing are very much appreciated. Thanks a lot for the help guys.

OOPS! LOL, forgot to actually post the pics. sorry bout that.

Here they are 3 weeks and 2 days in. Man, I hope the "Gourmet Herb" nutrients will be enough. Any tips on what else I should be doing?

To be honest, I did not think the plants would last more than a week.

Here's another good one I just took. What do you all think?

Quick question I just thought of: When will I see buds start to show up? Or do I have to go to a 12/12 flowering cycle before any buds show? Thanks.

looks good from the top..
what happened to the bottom?
looks like it got burnt..
did you feed her any nutes?
& what soil are you using?

QUESTIONS

1. When should I start flowering?

whenever you want to start flowering..
but, if from seed you need to wait till it has 5-6 nodes at least..

2. Are those gourment herb growing nutrients powerful enough?

what's details/percentage on the nutrients? (2-5-5 & whatnot)
i'm thinking you will need more..
during veg they need more of N & flowering they need mroe P & K..

3. Is 3000 lumens enough for growing?

the more light = better grow/bigger buds..
the less light = shitty grow/crappy to little buds..
all you need to know..
get as much light as you can..

good luck man :D

Thanks RastaCourage, I really appreciate the response.

On the box it said the nutrient tablets were:

N 9%
P 15%
K 17%

I'm honesty not sure what that means exactly. Is that decent? or should I try and get something off of fox farm nutrients?

If fox farm, what should I get?

no problem man..

your nutes are for flowering..
you want something high in N & a bit lower on P & K..
that gourmet herb thing is good for when you flower though..

they are good, just more for flowering..
you could get fox farms.. but, i think you're good with things right now..

what kind of soil are you using right now?

actually my aerogarden just has a 1 gallon water resovoir which I keep filling and I'm putting two nutrient tabs in there every two weeks. So no soil in my system. This Aerogarden has some kind of pump which pumps a small stream of water onto the base of the plant and keeps feeding it.

Do you think I should transfer those two plants to soil and put them in a pot? If so, what type of soil would you recomend?

I'm seriously considering doing that because I'm starting to think the aerogarden water resovoir isn't big enough.

oh, sorry about that..
i didn't pay attention to the aerogarden thing..
it's even on the title.. lol
i was focused on the plants instead..

i would suggest you put your plants in soil..
it's much easier to handle than the res..
do you know the feeding schedule on the aerogarden?
if not, i would try & change it to 2-3 times a day..
but, personally.. i think soil is easier although you have to feed & water yourself..

if it's your first grow.. i say stay away from miracle gro..
get scotts potting mix with scotts perlite..
& depending on your grow space or how much you want to yield..
the pot size must be big enough for the roots to grow out..
if not, you have to transplant into a bigger pot or you will get stunted growth..

i think you should get a 10" pot in diameter..
& as deep as 8-10" for the roots to grow..

good luck my friend & keep us posted with your plant :D

ya, I'm definetely gonna transfer these plants to soil. Like you said, I think the resovoir is just gonna be a hassle for me.

Rasta, for the cause of lower heat and electricty costs, I'm thinking about buying a strong flourescent lighting systems from stealthhydroponics dot com instead of a 400 watt system.

It is called the Dual Spectrum II High Output Fluorescent Light Kit

It provides 8400 lumens for both vegetative growth and flowering phases.

Do you think this sufficient for a small grow like mine?

Also, when you say "feed" and water three times a day, what do you mean by feed in terms of the soil (add tabs?)? Also, about how much water should I give them per day if I get the 10" pot? Also, should I get one 10" by 10" pot for each of my two plants, or put them both in one?

if you can afford to i would get a nice hid hps light for your plants i would say 150-250w would do your girls good or if you going to do more plants next grow maybe a 400w

good luck with the grow:joint:

well, like the other guy said 'an HPS or MH would be much more sufficient'
those weren't his exact words, but you know what i mean..
if you're only going to do a small grow.. i would say CFL's..
but, the cost would be daylights & soft/warm whites..
i don't know if you could get as much bud from flowering with a fluoro..
what's the spectrum on it? 6500k is for vegging while 2700k is for flowering..
also, to convert that.. blue light = veg & orange/reddish light = flower
don't get so dependent on the lumens..
they're important but the spectrum is important as well..

as for the feeding, i meant with the res..
i think you are doing hydro, if you had it in the res..
you're supposed to water about 2-3 times a day..
for soil, it would be totally different..
you water only when the tops of the soil get dry..
& you can also check by sticking your finger about an inch into the soil..
if it's moist then leave it alone until it dries up..
even the pots weight can indicate whether the plant needs water or not..
light being it needs some water & fairly heavy meaning its got enough..
watering averages are about once, every 3-4 days..

& NO!!! NO!!! NO!!! NO!!!
never plant two in the same pot..
that causes them to fight over space/nutes & whatnot..
& by them doing that, they will get tangled..
then eventually, one of the two will die..
because one will lack water/space & nutes..

hope this helps you out.. good luck :D
