Aerogarden Grow Struggles

Hi everyone,

I have been having some trouble with my current aerogarden grow and I wanted to get all of your opinions.

PH around 5.8-6.0
No Nutes
20/4 light schedule
Pump settings have been all over the place as I have tried to monitor how wet the aerogarden sponge medium has been.

Any ideas as to what is going wrong? The past two times I have experienced this and I cannot figure out the problem. The grow starts out well but eventually the first serrated leaves start to turn yellow and when I examine the stems they don't look solid white and healthy, more opaque and stuck to the sponge. While I don't think it is root rot I don't have any other ideas as to what is happening.

I’d start off with 1/8 or 1/4 of whatever your bottle or powder recommends for fertilizer and work your way up from there slowly

edit-I can’t open the photos

your image links are broken or unavailable to us . And as the others said you can use a very mild solution to propagate any seed I know we are told it’s possible with just straight water and it is I have done both ways and the better way they grew for me was me getting a bottle of clonex adding it to the water made them grow faster and stronger actually and helps with darker red stem if that’s the problem witch it does grow out of if u haven’t used any nutes and then after it starts eating and growing the stalk thickens and turns green at least that’s how it works with me ... also water temp is important u can run a little warmer during seed prop and after u have roots u should maintain 65-70f temps , hope this helps good luck to u! Cheers

Just reposted the photos, apologies for them not working the first time.

Yes I was always told to not add anything for the first two weeks. This seedling started showing decline within the first 7 days.

I am just confused because this is basically the exact same setup I used earlier this year and it worked perfectly.

1)Whats your ph at currently?
2) How often are you changing the water and testing ph?

looking at that tube in the picture, is that slime of some sort?

Youre going to need a basic nutrient in there for the plant to grow, unless your water is really high ec.

1) So I just checked and my PH is at 7, which I know is too high, but these problems started a week ago when my PH never got out of the 5.5-6.5 range. It was normally right around 6
2) As I mentioned before I was checking twice a day before things started to go down hill. I got a little frustrated so I left it alone for a little with the mindset that all hope was lost on this one.

Yes that does appear to be a little slime, which I assume is not a good thing.

I have fox farm nutrients I am prepared to use, I guess on my next attempt I will add 1/4 of the recommended amount during this earlier stage.

2 suggestions: if they got leaves and roots edit** (in hydro), they need nutes. EC of maybe 0.2 to 0.3 should be plenty.

and yes to getting rid of the slime .

The instructions that come with an Aerogarden suggest using a small amount of nutrients (I forget how much exactly) beginning on the day that you plant your seeds.

Rather than using white tape over the vacant holes, drop a golf ball on top of each.
I currently have duct tape over the holes, figured that was good enough. I also have black duct tape, no golf balls.... not a golfer :P

I am going try again with some nutrients at the beginning. Maybe a 1/4 of the recommended Fox Farm nutes. I know most people say don't use the aerogarden nutes that come with the aerogarden, but I actually started a seed in my step moms aergarden over a year ago and she added the aerogarden nutes, the plant was thriving right off the bat!

i have a similar unit called a powerplant and the nutes it came with was DynaGro Grow.

so yeah, the seeds i start sprouting get nutes.
