This is my first post as you can see. Im breaking the ice, and looking for advice. I have a 6x6 closet that is 9 feet high. I have 5 light fixtures that will hold 3 bulbs to a fixture. For now im useing cfl bulbs. I have 12 23watt 6500k bulb and 12 23watt 2700k bulbs. I plan on getting a couple 400 watt hps lights, but that will prolly be awhile in the future. I purchased 32 white widow seeds, 12 himalayan gold, and 12 super silver haze. These seed are feminized. Im growing in soil. I have jacks classic all purpose 20-20-20 and blossom booster 10-30-20. I have a bag of miracle grow potting soil with the time release nutes and i have a bag or plain hyponex potting soil. Just looking for advice from someone with a successful grow under their belt!

Also i germinated 6 white widow seeds. I let them get from a quarter inch to a half inch long and planted them in the miracle grow potting soil. 2 sprouted and the rest seem like they are having trouble coming up. I have read that soil with time release nutes sometime will destroy the plant. What do you think?

My self. I don't like the mg soil. It will work but can be a real pain. at least it was for me. you might mix the two 50/50 and add 1/3 perlite. BIG WORDS
Don't over water.

I haven't used MG soil myself, but I've read enough complaints about it that I would use something different. Uncle Ben has a tips thread over on the advanced growing techniques forum that covers a few different do it yourself soil mixes that would probably serve you better.

What would you consider over watering and thank you for the info about perlite. i have a sprayer and i just lightly mist the top soil and plant 2 times a day with no ferts in the water yet.

I water with a spray bottle. spray slow and soak the soil untill you get a good run off. then don't water again for 3-5 days. you want the soil to dry out before watering again. That helps the roots to grow. as the water goes away the roots look for it. MJ is a plant that like to be wet then dry and so on. If they don't burn up in the mg soil first you won't need to add any nutes for a month or so.

yes. rule of thumb. about half the volume of water to soil. 1 gal of soil 1/2 gal of water. If you sprouted in the mg. I'm not sure what you should do. I start in seedling soil. even when I used the mg soil. Think about a baby naked out in the sun. It would burn up in a hurry. same with the new roots.

scratch that miracle grow soil. you will have a better chance with shitting in a bucket and planting your seed in that.

I have a 6x6 closet that is 9 feet high.
a rule of thumb is 50-100 watts a square foot ie: 6x6 closet 1800 watts of light( 36*8 ) ideal you would want at least a 1000w.

I have a bag of miracle grow potting soil with the time release nutes and i have a bag or plain hyponex potting soil.
use just the plain ol hyponex. time release ferts are ok but they some times cause nute burn. IMO "compost tea" is cheap easy and works great for soil grows.
personally i use 4 cups of vermicompost placed inside a stocking along with an airstone - Removed after 8 to 10 hours.
1 cap of fish hydrolysate
1 cap liquid seaweed - I put this in at the end
(and when I flower I sub the seaweed for guano)
and a couple of drops of pond water.
good luck with your adventure my best advice is research, fail, and learn.

cfl's need to be very close 2" on the low watt a little more with high watt. At least where I'm at they have next to nothing right now. Don't know about lowes. when you get soil don't forget the perlite. If you have a fred myer close they have stayed stocked all winter. thats where I get my coco blend.

There is no fred myer around, But i will go and see what i can find today? thanks stumps
I got some organic seed starting soil made by jiffy, also some perlite made by miracle-gro and i just realized that it says "Enriched with Miracle-gro plant food." there is white widow in this soil now. There is 1 third perlite in the soil. Do you think i should take them out and put them in regular soil?

I didn't seem to have any problems with the mg perlite. I was pissed when I noticed the nutes. I didn't wven look at when I bought it.
