Advice on first grow

Hello, first time grower here looking for some tips and advice on my indoor grow set up. Darth Vader og all grown from seeds. Running a full spectrum 42w LED along with three 15w cfl's. Soil is foxfarms ocean forest and ive been using tappin roots for nutes. Plants were initially in miracle grow but started suffering from nutrient burn early on but since switching soils and flushing them they seem to be coming out fine. Any advice is definitely appreciated. From Ft. Collins, CO with love, Carson.20160523_153916.jpg

Just my 2¢ ... But they do look pretty good so far. They seem uniform in size and health .

BUT .... Now is the time to ramp up the lights .
The plant needs as much as you can give her. Whether you choose a CFL GROW or LED. It looks like you have some flouros going on , and maybe at least ugrade to a T5 setup.

Welcome to RIU, and the wonderful world of cultivating the world's most misunderstood and feared medicines!!!

The only 'advice' I can give you or anyone is to read and learn and then apply what you have read and learned to your garden and you cannot fail. Anyways, remember the search tool is your friend...Lots of folks here willing to help a new farmer get up and growing. But at the end of the day your grow will be only as good as the knowledge and work you put into it.

It is always great to ask questions but do not take anyone's advice or opinions and follow blindly. Do your own research, you will be much happier knowing you have done it for yourself and by yourself. The first buzz you get from your own budz...is by far the BEST high you will ever have!

Do a search using your current question as the keyword(s) and ZOOOM!! Like Wonka's Great Glass Elevator…off you go to tons of threads answering all your questions. Read all the Newbie Central stickies and learn…

Soaking up all that information and sifting through it, is going to take time. You will likely finish your first grow by then. Viola! grow complete and education well under way.

First,,,FFOF has more than enough nutes to feed those plants through vegging into their transplant pot and additional 3-4 weeks because of the additional soil after transplant. You need add no additional nutes. Except for possibly cal/mag... FF products are notorious for lacking secondary nutes.

Second @Budzbuddha is right...time to up the game as far as lighting goes.

3rd I am assuming and hoping you have a much larger grow area to put them in and soon?

As far as the plants go, they all look pretty healthy and recovered from nutrient burn. Luckily you diagnosed that problem quickly. Also, your space is fine for now, but you should spread those babies apart pretty soon to ensure optimal growth for each plant. Now that you have foliage growing it's time to get some more lights. Your light spectrum seems to be looking nice on your plants so add to it or expand In general, it's about that time where you'll see big changes very rapidly and you don't want your plants to get restricted or suffer lightburn overnight! For a first grow, it is overall looking healthy and great. Like I said, expand. Costs a lot of money to grow the best buds, but with the right knowledge and equipment you can make your way to some potent, sticky, purple Darth Vader OG nugs. Great choice!!! Good luck with your grow and keep reading. you're off to a great start

In online forums it is considered rude to start a new topic or discussion on someone else's thread. I am glad you asked first instead of just going ahead and 'jacking' this thread. Please post your own...it will help you avoid feeding the trollz...and get more and better replies to your post.

Another thing, watch who you take advice from. Some members like to give out advice, but are only just now completing thier 1st grow.

I don't think it particularly matters how many grows someone has been through as a qualification for advice - if they've encountered the obstacle you're dealing with and have something to add, then super. I'm just finishing my first harvest, but I watched so many seedlings (and clones) die before I got a hang of it, I could recount just about every mistake I made.

Personally, I think your plants look solid. As to your light setup, I've put plants under HID for veg and others under a combination of T8 fluorescents and CFLs. The HID plants definitely grew faster, but the other veged just fine under the fluorescents. It just took weeks longer for the plants to look as tall and/or as full. I've not used LEDs yet.

Another thing about your setup, I don't see any fan, and my plants have seemed healthier and more resilient when they have had air blowing through the canopy. When the plants are still young, I direct the air so that it is providing a steady, but indirect current along where the plants are standing. My understanding is that the air forces the stems to get stronger by stressing them a bit.

Good luck with your grow!

Thanks for all the advice and support! @Fatbard I have two desktop fans out of picture so the plants have constant movement...great to know about the lighting headed to my local grow shop tomorrow to invest in some more lighting. I'm still a little unsure on to add nutes to my water or not...been seeing a lot of different answers. Thanks again, Carson
