Actual Yield Vs. Advertised Yield

How's it going everyone?
I have recently made my mind up to start growing. I have looked at seeds for super lemon haze, barney's lsd, holy grail kush, and skywalker X OG kush. The descriptions under the website (herbies) claims that these strains get anywhere from 500-700 grams per m squared. However, after doing seemingly endless research on RUI there seems to an avg. of about 1-3oz per plant for newer growers. The only people getting remotely near the numbers advertised for indoor are scrogg'ing and taking an extra month to veg the plants. The advertised description of the seeds stated their flowering time to be 8-10 weeks. I understand that the finished product depends on the growing conditions as well. Still, what have been your experiences with the actual yield vs. the advertised yield?

Realize too that yield is a function of light with about .8 grams/watt being about the best you can expect. For example I just finished my very first grow. I harvested roughly 371 grams which turns out to be .62 grams/watt. Anyway just get started don't worry so much about yield just get something you'll enjoy and see if you can keep it alive until you harvest it. But you'll learn so much from one grow you'll be amazed.

Breeders add these results to try and stand out in the crowd, what they do not tell you is veg time, nutes used, PPM/EC, lamp spec, etc.

Take this info with a grain of salt.

I'm on my third grow now and I agree with what curious said. you will learn a lot from your first grow. my first time I almost killed 2 of them and wound up averaging about .2 grams a watt. Second time I got .3 per watt. so this time I increased the wattage hoping to get better. but no matter how much you get you will enjoy it more because of all your hard work. good luck to you man!

any breeder who bull shits in the game isn't around for very long. The yield expectations are approximate, usually breeders will say a certain strain is a light, medium, or heavy yielder.

Appreciate the responses! I have decided on using an 1000w hps bulb to see if i can squeeze every last bit out of these plants plus i'm gonna jump in and attempt a scrog my first time. Hopefully i can rely on what others have posted and use that to my advantage. I'm shooting for a pound or two off 4-5 plants. Kinda ambitious but I can't wait to get started on this.

1000w HPS, very do-able. Probably not with your Kush strains, but the others... :) Your first harvest will probably be half of what you expect, and following harvests get better as you get things dialed in and learn more of what your plants need. Start flowering em when they are about 20-22" tall and you'll be better on target for the most yield.

Have fun!

Awesome to hear, I was about to start flowering off 15" plants. 22" sounds way better. Would I need to scrog along with getting the plants to that height to get that weight?

How do you plan on growing soil/hydro. A few tips I will throw out there even though there are people here way smarter than me. Depending on you grow grab a rez that will hold enough water for feedings or water changes. Ph the water to the desired PH and put an air stone in the rez to keep the water filled with oxygen and always moving. Do not feed your girls to early, this will add time to the grow and cause a lot of problems down the road. If you see any signs of issues dont jump to fast and start adding nutes, flushing, etc, first time growers usaully make the wrong call and do more damage then good. Make sure you area is clean, sealed, good light, good air flow, proper RH and temps. If you follow this you should be golden. Or green however you want to look at it!!!!

I'll be doing hydro. I haven't decided on whether to use coco or rockwool in conjuction with perlite. +1 for the tips and insight friend. I can read all I want, but its the actual experiences that help the most.

I've got a couple going right now with yeilds of 500-900 grams per sq/m. You have to keep in mind that this is all due to perfect conditions, nutes, etc. It can also be altered by scrog, lst, croping, super croping, etc. I have a crazy setup some hydro, waterfarm, soil, coco, different nutes, no nutes, scrog, crop, super crop, lst, and yes the straight up all original. I believe it all really depends on your method and style of growing. I would say if you want a high yeilding plant go with a indica dominat plant. The smoke isnt always the strongest as a sativa but it is higher yeilding most of the time. Try and find a strain that is a 80% indica and 20% sativa I think you would be very happy with something like this. Yeild also depends on lights, space, etc.
