Activated Carbon Furnace Filter

Years ago i searched high and low for any sort of oder eliminating replacement furnace filters to help out with the beautiful fragrance of growing but never found anything legit.

So i was at my local hardware store yesterday and i happened to notice a "NEW Pet Oder Reduction Filter" furnace filter by 3M. It looks just like your basic furnace filter replacement but on the filter element it actually has a layer of activated carbon. Maybe these have been out for a while but this is the first time i've ever seen them so i bought one. I actually just replaced my furnace filter about a month ago so i didn't put the new filter in just yet. My plants right now are about 3.5 week into flower, going to wait until they're 5 weeks in when they're really stinkin before i put the new carbon filter in to see if it makes a difference.

I'm not expecting much but it would be nice to be able to answer my front door for a pizza delivery or the UPS guy without getting comments about how good my house smells...

Has anyone else ever used one of these or one like it, if so did it work???

it can't hurt, let us know what you discover. carbon doesn't work nearly as well in hi-humidity conditions. hey sounds like you may need an additional just-scrubbing 24/7 carbon filter by yer plants. /generally I don't even remotely consider ordering food unless smell is non-existent. don't wanna have word spread n get jacked.. :joint:

My belief is that it'll work ... but not for long. Gardeners' carbon canisters contain 100x and more carbon ... and last a year or two. I think this is great as backup for odors that escape into the house from the ... area ... cn

I already have a serious carbon filter going and several other small home made filters. Oder really isn't a problem for me at this point but I've always really liked the idea of the furnace filter because its filtering air that gets circulated to my entire house..

I love it when a plan comes together. cn

i couldn't imagine-

opening the front door and worrying about any type of smell.

did you fellas know making activated carbon is quite easy? i'm sure there are video's everywhere.

for me, ozone is where it's at. it doesn't just eliminate odors, it deeps scrubs. under the couch an everybody. germs, dander, pollen, mites, you name it. zapped.

most industrial hvac systems(hospitals esp.) use the technology to scrub odor smoke, pathogen, etc.

I have an ozone generator. Works great. It almost smells like static electricity when it's running.

ozone can be great especially how it can sanitize even the smallest particles. be safe with it, consider running it in bursts or exhaust only. shit can be detrimental to ppl and all critters. seen a dog freak, as in upset, when she smelled it. I listen to animals.

Good advice abe. It's on a timer, and only runs 15 minutes out of the hour in a sealed room.

actually it's quite likely-

it smells like ozone. after it runs for awhile and zaps all the badies, it will smell like an ocean forest.

I need to do more research on ozone generators, I read a lot about them some years back and found a lot of contradicting opinions on them. I believe they absolutely work when it comes to killing oders but I've also read a lot about how they can be hazardous to your health and the health of your plants.

UvonAir recently spouted how there Ozone line is being used to repel and kill spider mites at a recent convention .. They never once mentioned the fact that it can burn plants if used in excess ..

I was just checking out the UvonAir 1000, looked on a couple different websites to gauge pricing. The prices are all over the place, one site had it for $238.95 and the next site had it for $62.95 lol. That $62.95 price tag sounds like a steal, I'm tempted to order it.

As a bio-chemist I can assure you ozone filters are extremely bad for your health. In fact deadly. Don't listen to me, read up on the science. And science does not come from the manufacturers

you'd think-

a bio chemist would've spoken up by now?

i don't know. they have huge ones installed right in the air handlers at the HOSPITAL. look it up.
