Normaly I buy clones in rockwool or some other suitable medium. Got home and realized they were in soil... I am thinking of hosing off the dirt in root ball and placing straight in the Leca.. Any suggestions out there.. BTW they are around 13#tall

nonono do not hose off the root ball. the plant will not like that at all. just plunk the clone on in your net and fill it with whatever you normally would. the roots will grow normally - the roots should all be bathing in nutrients, so it really doesn't matter what they're coming out of. if anything gently hose it all away after the plant has established its roots in the nutrient bath.

This is a DWC system.. won't the soil mess up my nutrients? Im still new.. just asking

you can hose off the rootball... itlll be fine.
Your plant might droop for a day or so, but as long as you dont go crazy with it, it will recover.

fuck that, stick your clone in a pot with some soil, let it grow some more - and take clones from it for your dwc

Listen, I'm a newb and I'm here to tell you that I do not know what is best, but I have successfully transplanted two grows from soil to hydro while the plants were in early clone. I have a DIY bubble cloner that I placed the clones into for a week prior to putting them in rockwool and clay balls. They did excellently on both rounds. All I did was pH a pan of water (a little higher than your res will be pH'd longer down the road, because I didn't want to shock the higher pH'd soil roots too much) and very gently allowed the dirt from the roots slough away from them - I did not hose or yank dirt off of the plants. I did gently swirl the roots around to agitate the dirt clumps. I was able to clear almost all dirt off of every plant this way and it didn't take long. Then, like I said, I tossed 'em in a bubble cloner for a week and the roots went WILD on all plants, both rounds. Good luck.

lol the guy above me is right But when i first started growing i was in DWC as well. I had to do the same thing. Just get as much dirt off as possible. Be as careful as you can why rinsing the roots and i used Luke Warm water. my girls did fine after the transplant just took a few days to bounce back

wash it gently and get as much as you can off without damaging.. if you put it with the soil into dwc like whoever said it above you will surely get root rot, cannot mix the two.. I would suggest even after a week or so keep trying to rinse more of the left over soil on the roots the less you have the less of a chance for rot trust me.. been there done that sucks when you wake up and theyre dried up with brown roots

I just put mine in a 1 gal pail of nuts and moved them around till all the dirt fell off then put them in 5gal buckets. Never had a problem
