the only fan i have right now is a 4" booster fan. I am still setting up. I plan on getting a carbon filter and inline fan. any suggestions on those? I will b running 4 100w cfl for now but will be upgrading to a 400w hps in an air cooled hood. I dont want to buy some crappy fan and filter.

Your AC unit does exhaust air so you know. Hot air comes out of the back at a certain amount of CFMs. That exhausted air might have a pot smell. If you're not exhausting the heated air outside of your opp then you really aren't cooling your room. Most AC units make more heat then cool air. If you buy a ductless unit then thats a whole other story.

You still need fresh air for your plants to breath. They're use up all of your room's CO2. Also fresh air actually neutralizes smells. Stale old air holds smells for a long time (thats kind of why old homes stink to high heaven). Also plants need oxygen/air just like people do. They don't just need CO2 as some would have you believe. All living things on earth use cellular respiration to grow and live. The by product of cellular respiration is CO2 emissions. Plants need a lot of CO2 for photosynthesis and to convert light energy+their food+water into something more useable to the plant. Like I said plants are weird since they use both cellular respiration (needs air) and photosynthesis (needs light, CO2, and water) for various physiological functions.

Also you may say I don't need outside air if I have a CO2 generator..If your using a CO2 generator then you'll still need fresh air so the flame burns clean. Otherwise you'll be making carbon monoxide (which is deadly to you and plants) instead of CO2. I will say this is a moot point of using a bottled Co2.

The bottom line is you'll need some sort of fresh air source in your room eventually.
