About to throw in the towel on HID. HOT! Cooltube.

I can not get the heat down. I have a 6 x 4 x 2 wardrobe. 4in can fan /2600 filter running up top for exhaust. Cool tube is totally separated and independent of exhaust.

The cool tube ducted in and out of the box. 250 watts MH running. I thought I could fart on something this low in watts to cool it.

I've tried it every which combo I can think of. I started with a booster fan pushing, then pulling, then 2 booster fans. Ditched those.

Said hell with it, I'm too deep on cost to skimp now. Got a 250 CFM active air inline fan just for the cool tube. It is loud and still not bringing the temps down. WTF?!?! Ambient room temp is 70-72. I'm measuring 90 degrees 6 in off the tube.

Anyone care to tell me what I am missing. I read stuff on here where people say booster fans worked ok or...hell I did it with a PC fan. I have a jet engine in my office and it's still not cutting it.

The only thing I can think of is your filter blocking to much airflow?
I have a 1000 watt but use it in a cement room so it is easy to cool but wood is a great insulator that maybe why it holds the heat so well!
There will always be radiant heat from the bulb 6 inches around it how hot is the ambient air in the wardrobe canopy level?

you say the ambient room temp is about 70. perhaps you need to cool the ambient temp in the room if this is where you are getting your "cooling air" from. i have the same problem in the summer. i grow in a closet in a spare bedroom and try to "cool it off" using the air in the room, which is already usually above 80 degrees. the only way for me to fix it is with a/c. it is a bit odd that 70 degree air can't cool a 250 w bulb, so maybe there is a detail you left out?

The filter is on a can fan. I'm sure it's impeding some CFM, but it's still blowing hard out the exhaust.

The thermometer is a Black Xikar hygrometer for humidors (that hobby has suffered dearly since I found growing). It's black and I'm wondering if the casing is heating up and giving a false read. We are gonna sub that out and see what happens. I've got one that looks like and oldschool rectum job that says 80, which I can live with but was hoping for 75 as I am going to throw a 400w HPS in here during flower. The ballast is outside the box and one of those switchable/ dimmable ones. Out for a new thermometer. Keep the suggestions coming. I have a feeling this is not over...

That brings up another important point the ballast is built in on the 250?
Having a remote ballast out side the grow space should help also I agree the black is drawing heat (radiant heat), putting something to block the radiant light will give ya better readings!

One thing that could solve all your heat problems is co2 as plants can withstand much higher temps with raised c02 levels! If you can not get it any lower than 80 you will be fine you will still grow good dope man they will use a little more water but big deal!

The ballast is remote and outside the box. I owe everyone a massive apology. I see a lot of people on here who don't think and panic and I just became one of them.

I bought 2 new thermometers from Target. Right now, they are 3-4 in off the brightest part of the bulb and both indoor/outdoor thermometers.

Thermometer A says the ambient is 76.5 and the beneath the bulb is 81.
Thermometer B says ambient is 76.2 and beneath the bulb is 85.7.
Anal thermometer says 82- 84 beneath the bulb depending where it is.
Another thermomter off to the side inside the box says 79.

This room is hotter than the rest of the house, but it's not 76.

Out of 4 thermometers, I think they are all shit...

The fan and filter are mounted at the top of the box. The fan is pulling through the filter pushing out through ducting which is going out a hole in the top of the box.

The "box" is a wardrobe. 2x4x6. The filter fan is mounted at the top ducting out to the room it is in. The cool tube is ducted separately in and out of the box.

Your ambient temp seems ok you will always see radiant heat close to a hid light don't worry and just keep the canopy far enough from the bulb so this is not a problem you will be ok have fun man!
