im upgrading from about 400watt of cfl to a 400watt hps and instead of veg i think im gonna do 12/12 all the way or only veg for a short time. any suggestions?
about to start new grow. any tips?

your gonna need more venting for the hps.
def. gotta veg for a bit.(more veg. more yield)
use daylite cfl for veg. then add the hps for flower.

Ventilation is the one thing you need. I grew under flouro before, and heat was never an issue. Now, vegging under a 400w MH, my temps can get really high.
The closet I grow in has an ambient temperature of 50 degrees this time of year. With just the light in there, it could get over 100. Ventilation of a must for a big light like that.

how big is the room it will be in? If your room is the size of a closet you will definitely need to vent, if its a 100 sq ft or more room, a fan or two in the room circulating the air SHOULD keep you covered. GL

are the plants going to be inside an op or just sitting out in the open.
if in an op you need ventilation fan. ehaust and passive intake.
just out in open a circulation fan. but being in the open like that its much harder to keep it completly dark for 12 hours at a time unless you dont have to go in the room and you cover the windows and make sure no light leaks around the door or from anywhere.

you might be ok with just a circ. fan and the sheet open but you will have to keep an eye on the temps
