Molasses (use the unsulphurated, first run, or black strap kind), are high in complex carbohydrates that help the beneficial bacteria eat the bad stuff in your soil and chelate trace elements, as well as the big ones, so your plant can absorb the nutes better with a lower chance of burn. The plant gets more of a benifit from the bacteria the molasses feed than the molasses itself. Do no use with hydroponics.

what they said, and ff's soil runs about $15/ 20 for like the cubic yard bag, depending on where your at.. its not all that pricey, and well worth it..

sure molasses isnt absolutely vital to keep the plant alive but why not use something that will greatly help your plants growth.(well, the microbacteria technically are whats helping i guess). mix in 1 tbs or so in 1 gallon of water, look for the word blackstrap on it. you want to know how much it can be had for online or retail?(the foxfarm) how much do you need?
