about the plant...

Is there a sticky about what happens on a daily basis during an mj grow? I've looked at a lot of everyone's grow pics and it's very interesting what happens to the mj and the changes it goes thru. Maybe a diagram is floating around on riu.

For instance, I'm wondering where do the buds come from as in what parts of the flower form them. They don't look like conventional flowers (that I'm used to). Are the upper leaves part of the flower and do they curl up into themselves or something? It appears that the leaves coming out of the colas seem to puff up and thicken somewhat.

I'm pretty much interested in the flowering stage and learning what's happening there. Maybe there's a guide already posted about that. Thanks.

This is a subject that fascinates me too. The thing that provided me with the info your asking about is growing some plants myself and watching them develop. My plants are auto flowering ak-47's from lowlife. The flowers develop in many areas, but usually around the areas where branches are coming out from. Before the budding actually started there were little green things in about the spots i just mentioned - these are called calyxs. The flowers basically form above these calyxs, and start of as hair like things called pistils. After about a week there were so many of these pistils that they started almost matting together - also, around the outside of these areas were leaves which were smaller than the leaves that grew first when the plant was young. Now, after 34 days these areas seem to be combined into flower formed from pistils and small leaves. Im guessing that these will now keep on filling out, with both more pistils, new veggy sort of growth like the small leaves, and lots of delicious resin glands :eyesmoke:

This picture of one of my flowers shows what I mean quite well;

Very cool Bigby & Airwave. That's a good size ball of funk on the top of your plant. Can't wait to see that on my WW down the road.

I'm looking forward to witness that progress myself. This is my first time growing and I haven't had smoke in a long time and I don't know anyone and really don't want to look around. That's why I started growing, so I didn't have to hunt. So, what got me curious about this kind of growth is that, to me, it's not a typical flower that's easy to look at and understand the individual parts right off. I know there's a lot going on during flowering and it's amazing that the plant produces what we like so much. Thanks for the details and that link.

So that's AK-47 in that pic? Looks like a hardy strain.

Hi 12tree :-)

Yeah, that's one of my auto flowering ak's, more pictures of them in the auto flower thread. I decided on auto flowers for my first grow because I couldnt have a dedicated grow area where I could have darkness, I can however put them in my bathroom for 4 hours which is completely dark. Obviously didnt want to have to give up my bathroom for 12 hours a day, so auto flowers it was. Decided on the ak's from lowlife after reading loads of reports, germed 4 out of five, one was proper runty and died, the other three have been under a 400w dual spectrum hps since day 2 and have been growing way quicker than I could have ever hoped for ever since. Had a few problems due to water ph early on, but the problems (yellow leaves, blotchy patches) didnt slow up growth at all. Started flowering after 16 days, after 25 days they just went crazy, pistils everywhere, calyxs swelling. The tallest is now 22 inches after 34 days, and ive been told she looks like a high yielder. And this is my first grow. I can highly recommend them.

And thanks for taking an interest :peace:

Sounds like your grow is going well. 4 out of 6 sprouted from my seeds. I'll have an HPS light in time for flowering so I will use the fluoros until then. So you vegged for 16 days?
