A51 RW-150 or ONYX bloom? Hmmm.....

Well got a surprise check in the mail today and really want to get a second light even though it's a 2x3 spot. Trying to decide what to pair up with the XGS, a RW-150... or Onyx. Comes down to like a $25 dollar difference so price is of no concern.

Well we've seen zero full runs with either.....idk, you are getting way more wattage for the $ with the onyx.

We know the bin #s for both, just need the usual superstars like supra/Mr flux to do the math:-)

Still don't like the opaque secondary lenses on the onyx.....sorry

That's pretty much my thoughts right now. I never read enough into all the DIY stuff to really understand the efficiency and performance stuff like I've seen Supra and some of the others talk about. So would be interested to so what they have to say. I do know a guy that has some onyx lights and the seem to working fine and he got some LUX numbers though I'm not positive how to translate that with an LED. He compared it to a 600MH and 1000W HPS. Onyx looked pretty solid. I can grab that data real quick.

Here it is.

Note: the following are just hard measurements - at the plant canopy top. For the MH & HPS - that is about ten inches from the bulb. In the LED that is about 20 inches from the LED.

600Watt MH - Total Current Draw 5 amps at 100VAC

Center - 94000 LUX
Corners - 48000 LUX
sides - 56000 LUX

1000Watt HPS - Total Current draw: 8.3 amps

Center - 135000 LUX
Corners - 85000 LUX
sides - 125000 LUX

LED - Total current draw: 2.2 amps

Center - 100400 LUX
Corners - 74000 LUX
Sides - 75000 LUX

LUX at distances from LED

12" 220000 LUX
18" 115000 LUX
24" 90000 LUX
36" 75000 LUX

Was wondering about that...^^
I run my xmls a touch softer but my fat heatsink warms up quickly at full draw. Wondered how they managed to cool those xmls down in such a slim profile....guess not.

150 rw for the win. Nice lux numbers from the onyx, maybe good for someone that wants extra heat.

I already have an XGS. Anything else I put in there I want to have more reds in it. Have any other numbers been put out on the RW 150 lately that anyone is aware of. Last I saw he had uM numbers for the different wavelength ranges of light and total and the RW-150 looked better than the XGS but I want to say that all the readings were at 12".

apollo puts out a sweet led. and they have the bugs worked out. i like it better than the other 2.

With the same LEDs? Or were the LEDs the buggy part? I'm confused here.
apache led's got it. if i was to get a led i would buy the at600 but that is spendy. Its the best. THe a51 is decent the new all white one. but it does 1 plant. my 180 does 1 plant well a smaller plant not my big plants i got going.

I concur about going with area 51 after reading the link/thanks spaz!

Or wait for a revision, which will happen rather quickly I think. The lenses will change, dimmable board is a couple extra $ to produce using same driver.

Now the driver protection kicking in on 70 degree Colorado weather is a big red flag......needs a thermal management redesign or lower the draw; probably the second as it is the cheapest option for rapid led ATM.

It's a 2'x3' space by no way in hell am I stuffing an AT600 in there. Let alone with an already existent XGS 190. LOL Also I don't know what you mean by "decent" all white ones. That's what the XGS I currently have is and I just pulled over 6-1/2oz with 190W in coco so.... Yea I'd say slightly better than decent. LOL

I guess by the sound of it A51 is the choice as I was kind of expecting. Maybe I should message the source and see what this new redesign has in store and if I should wait or get the RW right now.

Alright heat issues units shutting off. I don't want to mess with that. Especially since I'm in TX, it gets warm here and I'm sure my lights off temps are going to be about the same as my light on temps, around 80+/-2*F. I'm pleased with my first A51 light and feel comfortable with them.... So here we go time to pull the trigger then seen if I can get 12-14oz+ using the two(XGS and RW) with DWC using canna's line.

was that from one plant under that...

Id imagine the XGS could handle two plants though

nope. 1.5 plant it does if you get 2 of them they will do 3 plants. i say if you gonna go led save up buy a at600 and do 6 plants in a 4x4 tent. I bought a chinese led to get me threw. till i can afford apache.

that seems to be a lot of watts for less than 2 plants......
