A tax analogy, who's really paying their fair share?

let's ask beenthere another trap question.

hey beenthere, how much do you think i have to pay the state in taxes on an income of 1/3 poverty?

i just photographed my state returns for this year. the answer may surprise you. or maybe not, since you're an internet psychic.

LOL!

it was about 21-22% if i recall correctly, and it was on about $28k or so.

anyone else here want to attest that they're paying about 20-25% on their similar level wages? canna sylvan already has. any others?
Using the calculator on the IRS website with a $35,000 salary with 0 deductions I get:

The IRS...dipshit said:
Based on your responses, your anticipated income tax for 2012 is $3,356. If you do not change your current withholding arrangement, you will have $0 withheld for 2012, leaving $3,356 due when you file your return. To meet your anticipated tax of $3,356, change your current withholding arrangement by claiming 0 allowances plus an additional amount of $678 for the balance of 2012.
Thats an effective rate of less than 10%.

Come on, it doesnt take a fucking accountant ;)

i always set myself up to pay the highest taxes i could with each check so i would have a return when january rolled around. could explain it. i still paid 21-22% or so.

that's called a pay stub.

generally, the HR department will give you a pay stub with each paycheck.

didn't save my return apparently, so sorry.
I thought it was in your garage with the rest of your paper work, and didn't you had a picture of it. LOL

That pay stub is likely from a commission check, but your withholding's are not your effective federal income tax rate amigo.
At first I thought you were being disingenuous, by now I realize, you just don't know what you actually pay in federal taxes!
Trust me dude, if your annual income is 28k, your taxable income is around 17-19K depending on your deductions.
BTW, you didn't come close to reaching the 25% marginal rate my friend, your top marginal was 15%, look at your own chart.
So only your income above $8,350 will be taxed at 15%, the remaining income was taxed at a rate of 10%.

Bottom line, your effective tax rate (the amount you actually pay after your refund) is around 6%, take that to the bank Bucky.

Meh, that's not really important, for all our entertainment just keep trolling these noobs...you're back to the trollitup level I once (and now again) look up to.

Canna has had some excellent sniping ones too.

9.5/10 both of you.

i can produce more photos, my effective tax rate before returns is above 25%.

the stub i produced was my last one before getting laid off, no commission, and a heaping shitload of overtime. they always squeeze you dry before they toss you to the curb, good old capitalism.

and sorry, i do not have photocopies or pencil copies (fill them out in pencil, double check, then fill the real one out in pen) of my returns. i do for this year though.

care to guess how much my state tax burden was on earnings of less than $5k?

When you tell everyone you're going to post your tax return and try to slide a pay stub in, I'd call that fake as hell. LOL
sorry, it's been 3-4 years and i was not concerned if i had my copies. i only saved pay stubs. i looked for my W2 to no avail.

if you want, i uploaded a few pics of me holding a sign that says "add some N, beenthere" in case you questioned their authenticity. i can post those as well if you'd like.

I think his main problem was thinking cannabis was native to California. Natural deficiency? My bet is he didn't up his K either. He was treating those plants like Sally Struthers does Ethiopian children.

Been,

I meant too little N. No smoke before posting! Also, if you attempt to fail again, block some heat. They sell these shade cloth that blocks heat, but let the light through. 90 degrees is too hot.

i would be happy if two things were done:

1) tax any income at the same rate as my labor. no reason i should be taxed at 25% for my grunt work and some trust fund baby gets taxed at 15% for getting handed some investments from daddy.

2) raise the cap on SS. no reason that 100% of my income should be taxed at 6.2% while willard pays 6.2% on one half of one percent of his trust fund baby income.

that would make SS solvent forever and make the tax burden somewhat more fair.

Bucky, Bucky, Bucky, your effective tax rate is calculated AFTER your return, why do you think they call it "effective" LOL
And I can't guess what your state tax burden is, I don't know what your state tax rates are for one, and I have no idea what your refund was. Why don't you just admit you have no clue about taxes, most people don't, but if you ever become self employed, you'll learn real fast!

I won't call you liar now, I realize you honestly thought you paid a higher rate.

nonsense.

it may not be optimal, but outdoors, you have to deal with what you have to deal with. i'm sure my greenhouse got past 100 on some days last year. just got to make sure to keep them well-watered and nuted and keep constant air circulation in place.

i'll just tell you then.

the state asked for $285 from my measly income of less than $5k last year.

CIMG2487.JPGCIMG2488.JPG

and i am fully aware that effective tax rate is calculated after the return, which is why i estimated mine at about 21-22% based on what i remember and empirical evidence of my tax burden which i posted for your enjoyment. getting back 4% of $28k is about $1200, which is what my return was to the best of my memory.

edit: the second picture sucks. 285 is my tax burden, 50 is my deduction for contributing to the DNC, 235 is my burden after deductions. 158 is what i paid in taxes already, 18 is my EIC, 176 is my total taxes paid, 59 is my amount owed.

the state asked the guy making a third of poverty to send them $60 on top of the $176 i had already paid in. do you know how much money $60 is for a guy making 1/3 of poverty?

i think i'm paying my fair share.

Sometimes I don't know if your BSing me or not, but I can tell this for a fact. If the fed withheld 21% of your 28K, you have a refund coming for over payment, take your 2009 1040 to a tax person and file an amended return for that year, I guarantee you will get paid.
We over paid in 2001 or 2002, our previous accountant made a mistake and we got a fat ass refund two years later.

i don't believe one can file a 1040x three years later. and i filed a 1040ez, those are damn near impossible to fuck up.

also, the IRS did send me $400 extra in 2009 because i was unaware of the making work pay tax credit that obama and the democrats (and one single republican) passed into law. so i imagine overpayment would have been addressed as well, but who knows.

You bet a natural deficiency, are you saying that during the late flower stage, the plant doesn't use up the remaining nutrients stored in the leaves, in particular nitrogen?

90 degrees in outdoor soil is perfectly fine for most cannabis, perhaps a bit tougher on some dominant indica strains.
You did know that soil temps at root levels are up to 15-20 degrees cooler, right?

And a potassium deficiency in an out door grow is usually marked by burnt leaf tips, edges or curling leaves, besides the nutrients we were using were bloom fertilizers low in nitrogen and high in P&K.

I appreciate the concern though Canna,

I told you, I'm a hydro man. I never got yellow leaf in the bud. All I know is temps in the water over 80 cause pithium. In hydro N goes up 10% and K goes up
20% in flower. Tds can go up as much as 400% from beginning of veg to the highest flower.

It's actually not the temperature of the water that causes the different types of pythium growth in the root system, it's the lack of oxygen associated with higher water temps. I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say concerning the nitrogen and potassium levels going up.
