a question or two about curing

i have several different strains curing now in mason jars at various time periods. two plants i screwed up on badly and had to harvest them without leeching or flushing(i grew in soil in a tent with t5 and cfl bulbs using gobox supposedly organic nutes). they got kind of poisoned when some damprid got into my runoff and they soaked in the runoff for a day or so. they were looking really bad so i chopped them. the buds were trimmed and dried for about a week. they have been curing in a mason jar for around a month and a half. when i roll a joint and smoke it, it is hard to keep it lit and the end of the joint is kind of black, not grayish like i normally experience. so i thought it was the damprid but i harvest another plant a couple of weeks later and the same thing is happening. the smoke is really powerful but the taste just isn't there. i still taste 'hay' which i guess is the chlorophyl. am i being too impatient? i would sacrifice potentcy for flavor as this stuff has more than enough kick for me. my real concern is that i have one more plant, a thai sativa that i am harvesting in a couple of days that i have flushed for a couple weeks and was fed sparingly for a couple weeks before that. i just want the thai weed taste the most from this plant. the smoke from her is really powerful already. any input is appreciated. thanks.

Flushing does nothing, unless you have added too many ferts/nutes while growing...Read that perfect cure thread, it's really easy to screw up at this stage, if you do it "The Perfect Cure" everytime way, you will be amazed...Good Luck...A perfect cure, cures your taste... it's easy to follow along...Flush? That's for the toilet....

I'm a little concerned about the possibility you jarred them up too soon and had em in for a month, it sounds like it still needs to dry more if the joint goes out and still smells like hay, you may have mold in the bud...during that month did you open the jar to air out? i would be looking very closely for mold.

mb the buds are still too wet? look at them and look for any fuzzy white cotton looking parts. it's bud rot. just look at it. would you just look at it.

thanks. the smell of the buds in the jars is not hay like. it has a very strong, good cannabis smell. i don't get any hint of a moldy smell and have looked at the buds with a magnifying glass to see what is happening to the trichomes and i don't see anything that looks like the pictures of moldy buds i have seen. when i jarred them up, i burped them 2x a day for the first week then once a day for the next week. now i am burping them every couple of days. i may have bot been burping them long enough though. my interpretation of burping was opening the jars for a minute or so. i may have been over fertilizing the plants. followed the directions but i have read (and it makes sense) that manufacturers say to fertilize too much so they can sell you more product. i grew in felt pots and the outside of the pots show a lot of what i assume are salts. none of the 4 plants i have grown had any yellowing of the fan leaves towards the end which is probably another indication that i over fertilized, huh? my last plant still looks nice and green after a couple of weeks of no nutes. i read the perfect cure thread a while back. just haven't gotten around to getting some of the hygrometers. thanks for all the help. and the humor too.

i usually let the trimmed branches hang upside down on a yarn clothesline i make in my flower room i point a room fan on em so they be swinging around fresh air in stale air out to a carbon filter for 10 days then do second trim on em and put em in jars, letting em breathe for a half hour a day and after 3 weeks they start smoking up right.

can you please tell us about the temperature inside the tent ?
if it was over 85 its normal to have chitty weed for most the strains

the highest temp i saw in my tent was 82. the smoke does not taste shitty, it just tastes more like hay. the buds smell really nice. i just am not getting that taste in the smoke.

i am thinking i am jarring them up too soon maybe. jamesszr - how long do you dry them for and approx what is the humidity level where you are drying? thanks for your help, btw.

It sounds like you did an okay job growing, for the most part. So I'd say the problem, prolly is your growing inferior strains... I can cut a bud of my pot, throw it in a corner for 4 or 5 days, smoke it any which way, and it's flavor city... Sure it gets better the longer I wait, but if your weed doesn't have any flavor 4 days after you cut, I'd have to say you should be growing something else. Find something better simple as that...

i grew 4 different strains though so i don't think that i whiffed on all 4. maybe the nutes i used? that would suck...

i went back over your first post....i googled damprid and thats some nasty shit......i hate to think your smoking any of that in your buds

I have to put damp rid in my curing box because the humidity is so high it will never dry. I never let it touch my buds, but it does share the box.

james2500 - just googled it too and looked at the msds. it does look like some nasty shit at first glance but then i looked at the ingredients. it is calcium chloride and/or potasium chloride and/or sodium chloride. pretty much table salt and tums...
