A perfect cure every time

This method is particularly effective for folks who are starting out, those looking to maximize quality in a shorter period of time, and folks who's like to produce a connoisseur-quality product each and every time with no guesswork involved.

It's a very simple and effective process:

Cut the product, trim it per your preference, but don't dry it until the stems snap. Take it down while the stems still have some flex, but the product feel dry on the outside. This is a perfect opportunity to drop the dry-feeling flowers onto a screen and collect prime-quality kief that would otherwise get lost in the jar.

Jar the product, along with a Caliber III hygrometer. One can be had on Ebay for ~$20. Having tested a number of hygrometers - digital and analog - this model in particular produced consistent, accurate results. The Hydroset/Xikar hygrometers are also recommend after calibration. Then, watch the readings:

+70% RH - too wet, needs to sit outside the jar to dry for 12-24 hours, depending.

65-70% RH - the product is almost in the cure zone, if you will. It can be slowly brought to optimum RH by opening the lid for 2-4 hours.

60-65% RH - the stems snap, the product feels a bit sticky, and it is curing.

55-60% RH - at this point it can be stored for an extended period (3 months or more) without worrying about mold. The product will continue to cure.

Below 55% RH - the RH is too low for the curing process to take place. The product starts to feel brittle. Once you've hit this point, nothing will make it better. Adding moisture won't restart the curing process; it will just make the product wet. If you measure a RH below 55% don't panic. Read below:

Obviously, the product need time to sweat in the jar. As such, accurate readings won't be seen for ~24 hours, assuming the flowers are in the optimal cure zone. If you're curing the product for long-term storage, give the flowers 4-5 days for an accurate reading. If the product is sill very wet, a +70% RH reading will show within hours. If you see the RH rising ~1% per hour, keep a close eye on the product, as it's likely too moist.

Simon, forgive me if this is a silly question but…when using this method properly, how many days should I expect the cure to take? I usually take about 3-4 weeks before I’m satisfied with it smoke wise

Well damn.. thought I was doing better this time around when I got all my jars stabilized at 53% after a week in jars and burping. Now I see this post. Well guess in a week when next two plants come down try again

I will have to read the 45 pages but I’m curious why someone who has experience in a real grow house hasn’t shared the little mini secrets???. I have been curing 12 yrs and I still have never been able to get the dry powdery looking buds u get commercially, then again I’ve used nothing but jars that i burp… I’ve never been able to get that chalky looking rock bud… lolol wtf shud I try putting those silica packs in the jars …

I'm following the perfect cure using 5 gal buckets with gamma lids and half gal mason jars, spotchecking with 4 hygrometers. It's working great so far - smelling mighty nice :)
So if your humidity is high in jar how do you remedy that? Pump in not humid air? Lol

I will have to read the 45 pages but I’m curious why someone who has experience in a real grow house hasn’t shared the little mini secrets???. I have been curing 12 yrs and I still have never been able to get the dry powdery looking buds u get commercially, then again I’ve used nothing but jars that i burp… I’ve never been able to get that chalky looking rock bud… lolol wtf shud I try putting those silica packs in the jars …
That “chalky” looking rock bud that turns to powder when squeezed is something I try to avoid. Not a fan of humidity packs unless I’m in a bind and want to make that chalky looking rock bud smokable.

There’s a bunch of articles that contribute the rock hardness to additives I forget which, plus they trim them round like rocks. I

So my very first Harvest they dried slow and I have notice there is a sweet smell in the jar, but there is also a hint of Hey. Or dead grass. My Hydrometer is at sixty percent. Should I just let it keep sitting in there? Or should I burp it?

Burp em. Don't have to be long. Get some fresh air exchange. I personally burp for about 2 min once a day until hydrometer reads 58-59%. After a few weeks I will add a boveda pack and jars go into bottom cabinet drawer in a nice cool dark place. I do fluff my jars every few days when burping. Different people slitely different methods but we all love the same thing in the end haha

They work excellent and cures to perfection. I use mini hygrometer's in each qp bag and let sit for 3 to 4 works burping and fluffing once a week.
