Just remember that when you come across trolls and jerks as well, of which there are also plenty here... but yeah... this is certainly one of the best/most useful forums I've come across as well
Yields taboo? Everyone I know who describes their ops always talk yields... that's the bottom line on everything we do... I haven't experienced this at all yet. Maybe taboo to guess at yields, cuz it's really guessing... but people guesstimate (you know, make an educated guess based on experience
) quite often too.
It feels very taboo to talk about low yields.
Like you I am growing for myself (well in your case mom too) so getting any plant to produce huge mounts is not my concern. I save tons of money by getting even a small harvest vs buying it at the shop ($200/OZ) or even direct ($100-$150). My current grow, which is a bit of an experiment on what I can get indoors where I live with minimal input, features six plants which (I guesstimate) are carrying upwards of a half oz each (so lets say 3 oz total) and only cost me $200 in time/reusable materials (lights, planters, etc) and probably even including electricity... already saving me $200-$400... that's a big win in my book, and since my returns will only get higher... well you get the point.
If this was my livelihood... that'd be another story... kind of, I'm "lazy" so there's a finite amount of work vs return I am willing to do (even when more work = proportionally bigger returns). After all, in a "regular" job I could work overtime all the time for more money (more hours plus time and a half)... but I like to do other things, so I balance things out.
