a little advice from cfl growers

could any people who have experience with cfl growing make some comments or suggestions on my setup and supplies for my first grow? Also any one who has used a setup similar to this and you have a grow journal setup could a please have a link??

-using small computer cabinet about 2ft tall, 3 ft wide and goes about 1ft back im debating about kind of florescents to use I was thinking maybe 2 small tube lights or idk im up for ideas

-im currently debating between Easy Rider or Afghan for the grow, im trying to find a strains that are small,stocky and easy to grow. probably going to purchase off of amsterdam marijuana seeds

any input,suggestion or grow jounrals would be highly appreciated thanks and
keep smoken homegrown sticky icky icky icky !owww:weed: weee!

I have decided that it would be best just to buy a box strait up because my test grow months back was horrible and that was one of my mess-ups,this seems like it comes with most i need to get going beside for something to read the temp.

I don't recommend autoflower strains I think the genetics are weird. Stick to an indica, afghani is great shit. Use a regular fem'd seed 60 days on a 12/12 light cycle & see what you come up with. Lst your plant to maximize your yield. Think about how much you are investing into this too. I barely have that much into my grow & I plan on getting a lot more than a pc case worth out of it. You can build a grow box from, dahdahdahdah! A box! Look into it, there's a lot of people doin it & doin it well. Save your money & buy seeds, or food to deal with the munchies you get from smoking afghani.

yah, i had a feeling someone would try to convince me that a grow box put together is over priced i kinda agree but I have a computer cabinet right under this keyboard and I think im going save some dough thanks for the advice i guess i just needed some motivation also I tried to use a actual box with my other grow and i had mold problems, but with this cabinet I only have about 2 feet up wards to work with but almost 3ft width I should be able to get the plant to grow more verticaly right?

I recommend at least 3 feet of grow height. To get any kind of real yeild your plants need to grow with only two feet its going to be tough to get anything or keep the plant from outgrowing its habitate. I'm doing CFLs right now I built a box thats 2x2x4 and I had to give them bushmaster to stop growth after a month ;) So the best thing is use the cabinet you got now for veg (18/6) with 6500k or 5000k lights (I used 5000k worked great) and in the mean time build a bigger grow box. Then when you got the bigger box switch to 2700k lights for flowering (12/12). Make sure to keep the lights between 3-6 inches from the plant for maxium results without burning the plants. Good luck and remember CFLs run hot make sure to vent the grow box or that thing will turn into an over quick :wink:

thanks priest, if anyone can give me some input on these lights thatd be cool im thinking of going with these 125 or maybe 100 watt cfl bulbs on the bottom of the page I dont think ventilation will be a prob because I can just set the temp to 70degrees in the room and some good fans probably should keep it at around 80 inside, idk if these questions will get answered but do you need bloom formula I guess its not required but how much more yield or we talking when used? and does anyone know of some good odor control products afghani probably wont skunk as bad as skunk #1 but I cant have this room reek of dope.

Seal the inside of the box off so the moisture doesn't touch the cardboard. Cellophane, caulk & mylar to cover it with a reflective surface.

As far as growing more vertically that's what the LST is for. You tie the plant down continually as it tries to grow upwards. Search it, it's really easy to do & very effective.

Northern Lights is considered one of the better odor control buds. Also there is a thread showing how multiple smaller cfl's is better than one big one. Buy them in the 25-42 watt range. The 25 watt are the best value by far.

you will need a bare minimum of 86w, actual, of cfl, per plant.

mix the spectrums. use 1/2 2700k, and 1/2 4100k.........

the skunk #1 doesnt really stink when its growing, it reeks after its dried tho.

Air fresheners, odor tablets, and stuff at your local hydro store will all work I'm using this gel stuff and a carbon filter and I'm doing ok.
For the bulbs you can do mixed spectrum or the standard 2700k both will work well and its up to you to see which one works better. Like someone said before the strain Northern lights is good for odor control but from my experience so is blue dream. :bigjoint:

thanks for the input, I guess I'll go with 2 power strips on each side of the cabinet with 2 lights or maybe 1 power strip with 4 lights hung by string or something. then maybe in a couple weeks or so I should have a grow journal up and all my supplies.

I guess building this grow on my own is gone save me a couple hundred dollars I got listed now
-fox farms fertilizer
-4 26 watt 2700k warm white flourescents and another 4 26watt 5000k full spectrum's
-Afghani seeds/Norther lights seeds
-ONA odor block
-mylar
-ph tester
-wireless thermostat
if anyone else thinks im missing something that i must have let me know 2

I need some help on fixtures for thing lights if anyone knows where to get some please let me know.

all together this costs me a little bit more the a hundred dollars alot cheaper and easier then my previous $300

lowes offers some nice cheap fixtures if there is one near you. they sell ones that are very small profile and also "Y" adapters that work very well.

Do you have enough PC fans to do like 1 intake towards the bottom and 2 exhaust at the top ? One of the number 1 issues I've read about with micro grows is heat. Also, what sort of pots do you plan on using ? Make sure not to use anything clear or white b/c it is bad for you roots

I did a lot of research into micro grows but ended up just cleaning out a closet and using that.

yah I plan on getting 2 little high velocity fans for like 10bucks in total should vent the cabinet pretty nice not sure what im going to use for a pot yet probably something that is more wide than tall just so the roots have alot of room to grow while keeping it low profile and giving the plant some more height to work with.

also if anyone can answer this, i was looking for some light fixtures but i could only find these lantern light fixtures which are made for lanterns but would these work?also what should i buy for nutes?
