Well thanks!
I'm like 90% sold!
another dude told me I could buy a bunch of led bulbs and that it would give me better results than cfls but this way would really be easier
and I'm under the impression that mixing cfl's light with led's light will kind of make the final spectrum "fuller"
I will just wait for a final answear on the other thread and go from there.
but for now, big ass cfl with 2 helper leds!
can't wait to start building the cabinet
Sounds great man!

The other dudes not wrong, I think there's a certain amount of personal preference here. But I think you'll be happy with the mixed lighting. Good luck with your grow, let us know how it goes!

I will!
I didn't post anything because of my finals, but it's almost over now and I did great I think!
so now I'll start my grow journal from seed to where I'm at now.
I took all the pictures so it's just a matter of uploading them :)

And thanks for taking the time to help me out!

He's right. CFL's suck. On a tight budget, common LED light bulbs are probably the best bet. Lumen is the amount of light, good 60 watt equivalent bulbs are about 800 lumen and actually draw 8-10 watts. The color temperature (tint) should be on the package, 3000k-4000k is good for veg and flower, 5000k is ok for veg.

The CFLs actually throw less heat than LEDs.
Sorry, that's not correct, unless you are talking about really bad LEDs.

We were indeed talking about cheap led growlight you can buy on amazon.

I did a bit of searching around and now I have a good idea of how to make a nice fixture for the led bulbs.
I'm going to go with that then.
Depending on my budget, I want to do one, maybe two 9 bulbs hoods. so 80 to 160watts more or less.
That would be bomb!

Whew, coming in hot there bud. CFLs aren't the best, but they certainly don't suck. Peeps grew with them for years before LED tech became more affordable. And he was looking at some pretty terrible LEDs. If you read the whole thread, you would see that good COB and QB setups we're discussed, but not available to him/in his budget. CFLs seemed like a reasonable alternative, as is your suggestion. It's weird, but people can have different opinions, and both be valid!

It's just an opinion, but one shared by many. They contain mercury and are rarely disposed of properly. They are obsolete tech, output and efficiency decline from day 1, poor lifespan, reliability and efficiency compared to LED etc. etc.

I switched to LED bulbs a few years ago, only one has failed.

yeah, it was just about the fact that it was a honest opinion and the intent of helping me out was genuine.
I had several options. odds were I would have been fine with either one of them.
But I ordered the bulbs yesterday. I should be one or two watts short of 200 true watts.
all of this for under 100 so everything is fine and well.

My seedling is a bit more than 2weeks old right now and I don't have much time left before I will be forced to move it under a bigger more powerful light.
it's still developping really fast, but I'm sure I'm not getting as much growth out of it as I could with the proper light.
