A few questions about fan noise and heat.

My main worry is balancing fan noise and heat. It's a 3'x4'x7.5' closet with a 600W Digital HPS. The intake holes would be pulling in 72 degree air. The exhaust would be routed outside.

I can't have any noise at all coming from the closet. How can I do this and still have decent ventilation? I've watched a few YouTube videos of these fans and they seem ridiculously loud... pretty much as loud as a bathroom fan.

I've read about a few ways to quiet things down, such as:
  • Insulated ducting
  • A box wrapped in Dynamat built around the fan (Heat hazard?)
  • Hanging the fan from bungee cords
  • Duct muffler (Can't see this working too well since I'll be venting outside. Outside noise is OK)
  • Mounting the fan on a padded surface
  • Sound proofing the walls (Can't see this working too well since the door can't be easily insulated)

Will a combination of these things make it quiet enough that I won't hear it when the door is closed?

Thanks

Its gonna be tough to do it that way especially with a 600 watt. i got a 400+ cfm for my 600 watt and it does enough to cool it but it is a little loud. Even with all the mufflers/silencers itll still be tough.

What is the reason you cant have any noise made?? If you dont mind me asking. haha

If its landlords youre afraid of than it wont be that noticeable to them because its a low frequency once it runs through the cooltube and ducting and out the exhaust,

but if you have people coming in your room daily who arent supposed to hear it its gonna be next to imposible.

Yep, people would be in the room every once in a while. : (

if youre going for low noise i feel like that's only gonna be achieved by cfls or something that doesn't require much ventilation. ive been trying to keep noise down in my room just to sleep and even after the duct mufflers and expensive fans it can only get to a certain level of silence.. but i live in a cheap apartment and what im running can barely be heard outside of my room with the door closed and doesn't bother any of the neighbors (and i live on the second floor with the main exhaust fan on the floor).. but if you need as close to silence as possible i hear cfls or leds are the way to go
