A few big plants VS a bunch of small plants

What are some pros and cons of growing a few big plants vs growing a bunch of small plants? I suppose growing a bunch of small plants would allow you to veg for a smaller amount of time and still end up with the same yield?

Veg for less time, and its way easier to trim small plants. I've been running a SOG with single cola plants from clone that get about 2ish weeks of veg mostly to establish strong roots. They go into the flower room at about 7-8 inchs tall in 6inch pots.I've generally got between 35-45 flowering at once.

I've been doing sog but transplanting that many isn't fun. and the colas don't get as big compared to bigger plants. but I just tried a new technique and topping once then throwing them in flower with about 2 week veg. Seems to be doing good so far

A lot of the differences also depend on what strains you are trying to grow. I have genetics that yield good in my SOG and others that I keep because of the flavor and overall quality, not yield.

Depends how tall you need to grow them for your space, how often you want to water (pot size) and how long you want your veg time.

Smaller plants are more efficient indoors. Biggest con would be getting caught with dozens or 100's of plants if you're growing sog style( if you have a decent sized area.) My state counts a plant as a pound, doesn't matter what size. Over a certain amount and it's guaranteed prison time.

My take- unless you are using intense lighting, you will get better results with a SOG.
My indoor grows(personal med grow) consists of 4 plants, each in a 17 gal tote in a UC setup. I train them for about 6 weeks to get 6-8 main tops and flip after they reach the first trellis net @ 14". Second trellis about a foot higher keeps the canopy spread and supports the tops. Just finished harvesting and got almost 3 lbs of flower.

Indoor I prefer many smaller plants to a few larger ones. I think it's just more efficient and cost effective.

Money, equipment and purpose.

A few big plants is cheaper as you use fewer seeds. I grow White Widow exclusively and get my seeds from ILGM. Now, if I do a group of small plants, say 4 or 5 that net two ounces each, I've spent 25 to 30 dollars for seeds in order to net around 10 ounces.

If I grow two large plants as I usually do, I've spent less than half that (about 10 bucks) and get between 4 and 6 ounces per plant. So in the long run, it's far cheaper (and since I only grow for my own personal use, that's key). I get more yield for less than half the money up front.

It's really down to what you're after and what suits your given situation best and the equipment you have. For instance, if you have a shit light, you don't want to try to grow big because you simply can't.

There's a good bit to consider all the way around.

Yield is based on canopy not plant numbers.
