A different way to dry?

I hang and cure as the general accepted rules but I struggle with hay smell. Is There any other way?
on a previous plant I left quite a few small buds on a harvested plant previously (as I got lazy) and over time obviously it just dried out and died and left the bud really stinky when ever knocked the ded stalk or get near the end.

I got a lemon skunk and just want the best from it.
Any other options/opinions ?

The hay smell could be from the nutrients you are using, not flushing in hydro, or the plant isn't really done yet.

I dry hanging the big buds and keeping the small buds on a cardboard box.

I grew lemon skunk and didn't have the hay smell problem. I used fish emulsion for nutrients when i grew it and it was in the ground.

Organic soil. Organic bio grow and bloom notes.
I know it sounds stupid but I laid some branches on a plastic lid end on my bed Instead of hanging and again was much better. Just wondered why this was.

My lemon skunk coming down tonight. Smells lovely. Hence asking the questions.

I cut all the leaves and most of the stems off the buds before i hang or put in cardboard. Don't bunch it up - spread the buds out.

I get hay smell out eventually but nothing like when I just let everything die and dry on the plant....

works everytime,

cut plant water leaf off, hang plant until outside is crispy,
cut into small sections and put into a plastic tub overnight, it will be wet again in the morning.
trim buds off stems and discard stems
put bud back into plastic tub, leave lid slightly open at night and tub in a cool dry place until bud is around 55% humidity.
it is now ready to smoke or jar for better curing

the *hay smell comes from drying Too Fast.......

... that is why most people recommend chopping the plant and hanging it and drying it with all the leaves still on..... which takes longer... because it holds the moisture in

I find that you can trim it wet and place the bud in paper bags and it drys really nicely.... just close the paper bags so the bud holds the moisture in..... but keep an eye out for mold......

(shake the bags daily and don't put too much bud in each one, just a couple inches in the bottom)

Yeah thanks. Been doing tons more research on the subject. It seems it locks in the chlorophyll which causes the smell. Now from experience I'm thinking of trimming up (while still planted) cut fan leaves and manicure all still on stalk and leave it to dry naturally. I mean can get slower dry then sucking through the roots and stem until nothing left surely?

Other stuff smelt amazing when done this. Thoughts? I know it goes against 'the usual'

Unfortunately I have low RH in my house so just trying to use logic.
What does a plant do while growing. Suck up moisture, use nutes etc etc.
Now if it runs out of moisture it is Eventually going to suck all moisture from buds, stalk etc etc.
i trimmed up 3/4 a Humboldt strain and left rest just in corner my room for don't know how long. Soon as went to throw it and break it down, it stunk like dank!

Can anyone else see my logic or just me? Thinking clip fan leaves and see what happens....

I'm new to this game and do my first dry myself inabout a week. I start a weeks flush tmorow infact, but I thought the idea of deciding to chop the plant and dry when we do was because we are happy with the state of the plant and its trichs? If we left the plant rooted to dry out on its own wouldn't the trichs continue ther cycle and wed end up with a plant full of ambers? Like I said I'm no pro but just my thoughts when I saw this.

Yes and no would be my thoughts. May mature a bit more then when you hang dry but as its not having light it's not making energy etc etc. I would think would ripen up just right after bit of trial and error. Like I say can't tell you too much science behind my theory all I know is what I done by accident and what I got.

Sad to say I've cut my plant and it's hanging right now with everything on it. Couldn afford to experiment with this one but maybe in my next ones I will. Would say takes like 2-3weeks to dry when left potted so maybe that's why it's just pure dank smell left?

Yer i get u. But suppose ud need to know near enough exactly when to cut the water out and hope they ripened up right on cue. Defiantely possible now i think about it more but for me its all about minamizing risk and wouldnt have the bottle to try this after a long hard grow ha. Well maybe with a few plants in a sog grow or something... Were in the north of uk u from if u dnt wanna answer thats fair enough but im from manny myself.

Just got back from flushing my 17 for the first time im absolutely fucked. Had to take two from the tents at a time and give them a good rinse in the bath. Just using plain water for today and going to leave it tomorrow and then flush again with grotek final flush. The bottom buds srnt lookin to clever with it been a sog but the top colas are really fat and dense. Thers alot more bud on these than i first thought because i could never see to well before rmoving them today. Looks like thers close to 2oz on each plant (rough estimate ha!) Hopefully the move about will help the light reach a few new spots for the last week. Cant hang about for them as time is a big factor with this one.

Good times mate. I been reading up on the latest uk law and got a bit nervy. Gonna trash a load of clones. Let me know if you want them. I can understand if you say no. Security risk etc. so sad to kill em off. Got Northern lights blue clones and lemon skunk clones going in bin :(
