What's the diameter of the exhaust hose on a 10000btu unit about to buy one online and can't find the specs

they are usually 5". i had to make adaptors when i was testing a portable. never more happy to give it away. i would not tell my worst enemy to get a portable ac for anything.

I know they're pretty ineffecient as far as AC, but might I ask what your issues with it were?

even the dual hose will suck the enviroment from the room. unless you spend $2000+ for a true portable ac, no matter what you do to the inside it will not seal it. tried it on two different ones. the exhaust puts out more heat than a good heater, wrapping with insulation helped. a wall/window is much better, but ill never give up my minisplit.

I'm totally in agreement, Mini Split's are amazing, and definately the way to go...

But, if someone already has a portable single hose...In theory couldn't you build a little sealed box with a carbon filter in it, then run the ducting from the AC unit into the sealed box, and have an inline fan hooked to a speed controller outside the box attached to the carbon filter. That way, the AC is venting into the box, trapping the heat and scent, then being drawn through the carbon filter by the inline fan and exhausting hot unscented air?

I only say this because I have access to a 14k btu portable single hose, but it's in the next state over...Eventually it's coming here though, and that's what I've decided I'm going to try.

really, dont waste your gas going to get it. you put any restrictions on those things and they freeze up. i understand when cost is an issue, but window units are cheap if you have a way to install it. do that, save your money and if you want to really control your room get a minisplit.

Haha, I'm not going to go get it, it's coming to me. And thats the reason for the speed controller on the inline fan, to match it to the CFM of the AC's exhaust. I have a window unit too, they're not exactly smell proof...lol...But yes, I do want a mini split, maybe when I own the house. But until then, i'm not spending 1k on the unit and installation, when I can't take that investment with me to the next place I grow.

have you seen the plug and play minisplits? system comes ready to go, plugs into 120v and you can take it with you without losing refridgerant.

I've seen pre-charged units, with pre-flared lines, but I was under the impression you needed someone to vaccuum the lines, see if they hold vacuum, and then to do the leak tests later on. But you still need to install it by drilling holes in the wall and running lines, and I would need to check with my landlord first. I mean, I'll give the portable AC a try, I think it'll work the way I've described, as long as I can match the inline fan speed to the flow coming from the AC exhaust. If it doesn't work out, It won't be costing me anything, since I can always put an inline fan and filter combo to good use...lol

you would be surprised. im just passing on info from experience and i hate to see money wasted. i know people have to do what they can, its just when there is something much better for the purpose i strive to go that path.

So the window unit is the best way Togo with out spending over 500 a few days ago I got a 10000btu for 230 the only problem I have with a window unit is the window will not be secure I like everything locked down
