A Book Review ...

So I just read this thread for the first time and the 1st post really made me drop my jaw. It was a well written introduction for the book that sought to both redefine the history of McCarthy while simultaneously using bomb-proof verbage that attacked and discredited 'liberals' in such a manner that antipated and nullified any potential response. In short, it was typical Ann Coulter horseshit. All of the complaints lodged against McCarthys liberal detractors are even more true when applied to Coulter herself: "Rather than own up to moral blindness... fired up the liberal slander machine, which would be deployed again and again... In hiding their own perfidy... were guilty of every sin they lyingly imputed". A stunningly apt description of Coulter written by Coulter. As an American who cherishes above all else facts & freedom, my distrust of all things republican has reached a frenzy. I don't know if I resent the hijacking of the party by biblical idealogues seeking to strictly enforce their moral code on my life or the racism/hatred espoused by Limbaugh and Coulter and widely tolerated and endorsed by most republicans. It doesn't matter, the core conservative beliefs of small government and personal freedom afforded by the constitution have been swallowed by the cult of personality that accompanies the likes of Limbaugh and Coulter. The republican party is quickly becoming irrelevant as the elected leadership has abandoned principle in favor of fame and the accoutrements of career politics. Their constitutiency is no longer a part of the mainstream population. The party is...on the cusp of being summarily relegated to antiquity. How could you republicans expect any less when holiday gifts are made of the song 'Barack the Magic Negro' and the most recent President from your party is at best a clueless idiot who strayed to far from his Tex-ass ranch but more probably a willing participant in the piecemeal destruction of all things constitutional? The greatest irony is the remarkable similiarity between McCarthys tactics and those used by Bush as a run-up tp the war in Iraq. The senate vote to approve the war became a de-facto patriotism litmus test as it occured in the wake of 9-11. Anyone who failed to close ranks behind the lies of the President and voted against the war was viewed as suspiciously un-American for questioning the shoddy intelligence data that was presented. Ann Coulter is a sorry woman who is nothing without her Foxnews audience of bigots and 'real-America' bumpkins and the demise of her minor popularity is all but assured in the coming years.

Nice little diatribe there, Bradly. Its very obvious to me that you are a victim and a dupe of liberal propaganda. Its also obvious that you do not listen to Rush, haven't read any of Coulter's books ... nor done any research on McCarthy or the communist infiltration in the Roosevelt administration ... or in the State Department during the McCarthy era hearings.

Yeppers, The Rosenbergs, Harry White and Alger Hiss were just "misunderstood" liberals and patriotic Americans.

Liberals discredit themselves everytime they open their mouths. It's all about love, and peace, and brotherhood. Until you tell them you're sick of being their slave, and intend on forcing them to get off their asses and work for a living instead of live by corruption. What gets me is that Medman rails against CEOs and then does the same exact thing that he accuses them of doing, living by graft, corruption, and by stealing the product of another person's blood and sweat.

Of course, I suppose I should be used to liberals being blind to their own hypocrisies...

From Wikipedia:
Joseph Raymond McCarthy ; He was noted for making claims that there were large numbers of Communists and Soviet spies and sympathizers inside the federal government and elsewhere. Ultimately, McCarthy's tactics and his inability to substantiate his claims led to his being discredited and censured by the United States Senate...one of the few senators ever to be disciplined in this fashion. McCarthy was never able to substantiate his sensational charges.

Ann Hart Coulter; Coulter has described herself as a polemicist who likes to "stir up the pot" and, unlike "broadcasters", does not "pretend to be impartial or balanced". Known for her polemical style,[20] Coulter has been described by The Observer as, "the RepublicanMichael Moore" and "Rush Limbaugh in a miniskirt." Coulter ignited yet more controversy when she was quoted as saying that Jews should be "perfected" into Christians. in a May 2003 interview with The Guardian, Coulter said:..."It would be a much better country if women did not vote. That is simply a fact. In fact, in every presidential election since 1950—except Goldwater in '64—the Republican would have won, if only the men had voted."

Rush Hudson Limbaugh III; The National Review magazine, in a 1993 cover story, called him "The Leader of Conservative Principles". The repeal of the Fairness Doctrine — which had required that stations provide free air time for responses to any controversial opinions that were broadcast — by the FCC in 1987 meant stations could broadcast editorial commentary without having to present opposing views. Daniel Henninger wrote, in a Wall Street Journal editorial, "Ronald Reagan tore down this wall (the Fairness Doctrine) in 1987...and Rush Limbaugh was the first man to proclaim himself liberated from the East Germany of liberal media domination. On March 19, 2007 Limbaugh referred to Barack Obama as a "magic negro". Limbaugh's first television hosting experience came March 30, 1990, as a guest host on Pat Sajak's CBS late-night talk show, The Pat Sajak Show. ACT UP activists in the audience[47] heckled Limbaugh repeatedly; ultimately the entire studio audience was cleared. In 2001 Sajak said the incident was "legendary around CBS". Limbaugh is sharply critical of feminism, saying that "Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream of society."[66] He also popularized the term "feminazi", referring to radical feminists "to whom the most important thing in life is ensuring that as many abortions as possible occur."

Now let's talk about this. There is a palpable absence of principled leadership from "conservatives" aka republicans. The successes enjoyed by Republicans over the past 8 years has given way to a the cult of personality personified by the likes of Limbaugh, Coulter, Rove, etc. These individuals clearly enjoy an enormous amount of support from the right but other than producing entertaining media that is thinly veiled bigotry, their work is devoid of substance and relies substantially on being provacative and incendiary in hopes of capturing an audience. There appeal to the Republican base is further proof that the republican party is no longer a viable mainstream entity and has become more of a circus sideshow in terms of political credibility. I would say that the ongoing antics of these fools is in fact the very best thing that could happen for democrats who are concerned with improving the situation in our country. The only thing that could make this better for democrats is if Sarah Palin was nominated the 2012 Republican pres. candidate (a laughable prospect for anyone with an iq >80 but a real possibility nonetheless). Oh and ViRedd, in anticpation of your criticisms of wikipedia, it is not an arm of the "liberal media elite" or the regular "liberal media". That whole criticism of the media tactic adopted by your heros Coulter and Limbaugh is their only defense when faced with the prospect of having to substantiate their wild claims against anyone who dare question them. I can't fathom how any thinking man, woman, or child could accept the self-serving lies spewed forth by Coulter and Limbaugh as fact...it's as if you would have to be a willing particpant in your own deception to believe their horseshit. Prediction: Rush Limbaugh's manic raves against all things sane is still fueled by oxycontin, Ann Coulter had a 6 inch penis surgically attached when her vagina had atrophied beyond repair, ViRedd will fail to acknowledge any faults of Limbaugh, Coulter, Rove etc thus making it apparent his arguements are incapable of dealing with actual facts and instead reflect the insular thinking so prevalent with "conservatives" these days that mandates strict compliance in lauding the de-facto republican party heads and maintaining a wide berth around any topics that could invalidate the party stance on absolute intolerance of abortion, homosexuality, being a minority, and global warming.

^^^ Nice find there, Bradley. Now instead of just cutting and pasting the opinions of others, why not listen to Rush for the next thirty days, while at the same time, read a couple of Coulter's books and form your own opinion? Perhaps a more informed opinion is in the offing?

I have listened to Rush (just spit up in my mouth a little bit) and read a bit of Coulter's writing and listened to some of her public speaking. The problem is I think neither of them are interested in anything more than bashing liberals. I mean seriously, reinventing the McCarthy saga in an attempt to discredit democreats? WTF? Neither of them are fit to be the mouthpiece for any self-respecting political party and yet they have both put themselves in that position. Failure of the republican leadership to publicly tell Rush and Coulter to move on is a problem that speaks volumes about the state of the party. Silence from party leadership says antics such as calling John Edwards a "faggot" and airing a song called "Barack the Magic Negro" is ok. I choose to not worship at the Rush/Coulter shrine they have erected for themselves.

I'm pretty sure that if Bradley or I or any reasonable person listened to Rush for thirty days straight they'd need a lobotomy. That is one demented dude. I see why you are so fucked up redd, you must listen to that verbal diarrea constantly. Since you have such a low IQ, you actually believe that drivel, talk about sheeple.

Ah yes, and you have seen the results of my latest IQ test, have you, Med?

Hey Bradley ...

Let me shock you a bit. I also believe that the Republican Party is in disarray and in need of a complete overhaul. The NeoCons have screwed things up so badly, that the party no longer stands for conservative principles. Another shock ... Rush, Hannity and Coulter have all said the exact same things. Another shock ... anyone who believes that Bush 41, or his Son-in-Chief are conservatives IN ANY WAY are completely deluded. Another shock ... I don't vote Republican ... except with a few exceptions. And, those exceptions were not for either Bush.

No, but I'd wager it's less than 3 figures, maybe in the 60-80 range, and that's being rather generous. I know I've called you an Idiot a few times, but really, I think your IQ is probably above 20.

LOL I did not know there was an official classification of "imbecile". I thought it was a moniker reserved for members of the current Bush administration.
