Yes it's doable but it ultimately depends upon how many plants you plan to put under the 600.

4-6 plants yes it's doable.

Any more plants and it's doubtful.

If your budding 12/12 straight from well rooted clones with zero veg time you can fit 15 to 20 plants under a single 600 watt hps , amount of plants will vary with reflector size & veg time .

How long you veg the plants will ultimately play the largest role as to how many plants you can put under a single reflector .

I pull between 60 grams to 90 grams per plant every grow using a sea of green single cola style .

How long are you vegging them for ?

Depends on the size of the plant, container size, how much light per sq ft. I got 185g from a plant in a 2x2x5' tall space. That was with 162w of t5ho and two CFLs as sidelighting (probably 40w combined, I don't remember.). 200w total? That's 50w/sq ft.

I got 90g from an 85w ufo in the same space. That's only 21w/sq ft. Better g/w, but poorer g/sq ft.

Added four Cree 9.5w LED lightbulbs for sidelighting (123w total, 31w/sq ft) and got 150g.

This was the same strain in all three cases. I don't get as much from kush and afghan. They take longer to finish and I don't get as much. Just did Hindu Kush similar to 12/12 from seed (2-3 weeks of veg) in a small #1 container. It was a small 1.5' (maybe a little more) tall plant. Could have fit 4 in a 2x2 space. Got 22g.

Go for it ....definitely doeable....4 plants under a 600 with the topping method used and 4weeks of veg in 3 gallon containers should give you 4zips per plant....

I used 4 cree cobs driven at 60w each. And I also used 2 100w Chinese red LEDs prob more like 30-50 than a hundred, could be wrong though, I'm gunna have to test em now.
Thanks. That makes sense. You got 58g/sq ft, which is great. You used 85w/sq ft which is well past the point of diminishing returns even for inefficient (cheap) LED. You got 0.7g/w, which isn't bad. I thought it would come out to 0.5 (considering how far past the point of diminishing returns you were).

Just wanted to make sure the OP understands the tradeoff between watts/space/grams. (Wouldn't want him doing 30-40w/sq ft and thinking he's failing at 30g/sq ft.).

I do a lot of cabinet grows. And I had that fixture laying around, which is why I used it. Correct, in truth I was about 35w per sq ft over. I however think I did a little better than that formula suggests, reason being is my 6 LEDs weren't centralized I can move them horizontally and as much as the plant lets me vertically up or down. I also don't incur a lot of droop because my amperage isn't cranked up either. 30g per square foot with LEDs on a first time grow still isn't bad, especially if uses a cheap Chinese panel or two.

It's normal and what you should aim for if you grow 5-6 plants in there. It's going to be very hard with 8 or more.
