I'm about 8 weeks into the flowering and the trichomes are all still pretty milky white. Do I need to wait until there is amber coloring or is it good to go now? Currently the amber is pretty much nil.

That's gonna be determined by strain....some don't turn amber...although most do....I personally use other indicators along with tric maturity....yellowing leaves, swollen cals...receding hairs....
 
I know some people like to take them down with only milky white and NO amber, and some people when its mostly amber.

Experiment. try different things. play around
