hi i have a tent that is 78 by 78 by 78 inches. i haven't quite decided on how to set the tent up and was looking for some help. i have grown in the past but nothing to this size. What i was thinking was 2 600watt hps lights with a carbon filter and like 2 clip fans one on the top and one more towards the bottom. was planning on doing soil. I also wanted this to be a perpetual grow with about a quarter or a half pound coming from it a month.
All ADVISE IS WELCOME :)

it depends on how much you are willing to spend. is the tent for flower only, or will you separate it? what kind of stuff do you have? you on a budget or.......need a lot more info other than just your tent size and goals.

i got about a $500 budget and i was trying to do a pure flowering tent and get a smaller veg tent. I still havent picked out which strain i am going to do was thinking ak-48 and some jack horror and maybe a plant or two of snow white.

the 2 600's will be good for the size tent you have. 1000w will just barely cover it if you want to go that route. you'll probably need cool tubes or 1 hell of an exhaust fan to keep temps down (also depends where you live). i think (imo) that a sog harvesting once a month would get you where you want to be, it'd probably be quicker too. 2 600w hps' will be about $100 a piece if you get a rebuild kit, and the cool tubes are $90-100 a piece. the exhaust could be up to $200. get a good ph meter (if ya don't have 1)$35-$200, and some good soil ($50+ to fill a tent that size). don't worry about the filter until you are actually flowering something. if you don't have a good grow with this set up yet, don't spend the $ on expensive seeds until you can be certain you have everything you CAN control in control, i.e. temps, humidity, exhaust, ect...not sure if this is your 1st grow or not, but i'm guessing that it is or close to it. the best advice i can give in this respect is to pick a strain and go 3-4 grows with it, get comfy, and introduce other strains as your experience grows. every strain will be different and a newbie dealing with 4-5 might be a bitch when 1 plant doesn't want nutes, and another is drinking it like kool-aid.

I suggest starting with a 400 watt conversion system. Then if that's not enough, you can upgrade to a 600, and use the 400 for veg, because if you do upgrade to a 600, you'll need at least a 400 to turn out clones fast enough. but you surely don't need anything larger than a six hundy. I only suggest the 600 if you have your heat totally under control.

So for $500, 150 for a system, 100 for a cool tube, 100 for a good fan, and throw in a filter and ducting.

OH ya, what he said, managing different strains is really hard when you're starting off...I only started learning what worked and didn't work after working with only one strain. The idea of having 4 jars with different nug is appealing, but almost impossible when you're new into the trade.

A tent that size can use 4x600W with no sweat. They cover about 3x3 each. Not gonna get there with $500 though. It will get you 1x600W ( $250 at HTG supply) and a passable fan and filter combo. You can then upgrade as funds allow.
Good advice about monocropping. A bunch of strains at once is difficult no matter your experience level.
