Does anyone know if you can safely put 4 foot, 75 watt bulbs into 40 watt Fluorescent fixtures?

I saw at Lowes that they had 75wt fluoro tubes. But anything I have seen (or have) as far as hanging shoplights are all for 40 watt bulbs or less.

Those are HO bulbs. Fluorescent T-12 tubes come in standard(SO), high(HO), and very-high(VHO) output. 40,75,110 watts respectively. Each uses it's own specific ballast and putting higher wattage models in fixtures with lower wattage ballasts offers zero benefit, and in some situations may not even fire the bulb.

You have to have the right fixture for the bulbs.....you may want to try daylight cfl's that is what I use.....you can put up to four cfl's in in one fixture using y fittings ,...three of these will let you use 4 bulbs from a single fixture.....screw one y into the fixture then screw a y into the two outlets of the y this gives you four lights.....with three of these setups you will be able to adjust the lights up or down independently as needed....hope this helps....

Yeah, it's safe you won't overload a fixture with four cfl's especially with 23wx 4= 92w.....less than one 100w incandescent bulb....
right on thanks alot i just did it and tis so much easier to get the lights closer to the plants with less fixtures in the way. +rep for you my good man
