oh what a shitty day

got my new 400 watt Phillips retro white CMH bulb in the mail today, shiped by ups and marked fragile, of course the box looked like they played kick ball with it.

pluged her in went well fired up and then a half hour later i noticed my light was dim, the bulb failed, filled the inside of the glass with chemicals, and my ballast was so hot i couldent hold my hand on it for half a second.

i do not have a digital ballast, nor any idea what the hell happened sigh.

Soo i was wondering if anyone knows what the hell went wrong? and what set up i can get that will run a cmh bulb with out blowing up thanks

this is my light and ballast

He said that he's not using a digital ballast.

Im about to go buy a cmh bulb for my 400w (one that works in mh ballast), hopefully this doesn't happen to me

o lol stoned mistake misread it hahaha also they make bulbs that work either vertical or horizontal so you might have had the wrong orientation bulb they are very specific.

that is a picture of a digital ballast. If you really want to run a ceramic halide you'll have to find an older magnetic ballast. You're lucky you didn't fry your ballast man.

not all digital ballasts have tone down dials. If it weighs less then 15lbs its probably digital. Check where you bought it. I think there are some CMH bulbs that are designed to work on a digital ballast but yours looks like a GYO, almost the exact same kind I used to have. I am 99% sure that is a GYO digital.
