619ster growing Alien Rock Candy & Arctic Fallout w/ growevolution LEDs

Hello all! I am 619ster, a Cali med patient growing in compliance with Prop 215. Some of you may be familiar with my grows, most of you not. I am sharing my grow using LED panels from growevolution.com, which are 180w LEDs pulling ~130w from the wall each (I'll consider this a 250w grow, and compare to 250w HPS). I have been using LEDs since I started growing 3 years ago (I'm still a newb). I have had experience with a few different LEDs, some great, some pretty miserable. Fortunately for me the good has outweighed the bad by far, and I am a believer in LED tech. I am still not very tech saavy when it comes to specs and science behind LEDs, but I do know what works and what doesn't as far as spectrums are concerned. That said, I am just an unbiased strain/seed junkie and hobby grower on a never ending quest for the best genetics and best lighting I can use to supply my meds. I am using a homemade grow cab with dimensions 27" x 44" x 48". Exhaust is a 160 cfm 6" booster fan, intake is passive. Two small 4" circulation fans. Ambient temps are 75-80F degrees, canopy temps and inside cab are 82-87F degree (good for LEDs, and great that I can keep them in that range with only a booster fan). Medium is first perlite in Hempy cups to get things started, then I go 100% coco coir. Feeding is with Hydroponic Nutrients Veg+Bloom (San Diego tap water formula), and citric acid for ph down. I used Mykos, Great White, and OG Bio War Foliar Pack to innoculate the coco. No boosters, no co2, no fancy anything. Just a poorman's grow if ya will lol. Genetics are 3 plants from clone of my keeper Alien Rock Candy from Alien Genetics, and 1 plant from clone of a keeper Arctic Fallout from House Of Funk. They were started in Rapid Rooters and allowed to veg in cups for 2 weeks with t5. I then moved them under one LED, and transplanted into pure coco coir in Airpots. I kept them vegging in the airpots and did some LST/bondage to keep the squat and bushy as I'm working with VERY stretchy strains. I did not add the second panel until a few days before I began flower period. Veg period was approximately 7 weeks. I'll show a quick picture of where they were shortly before I began bloom:

I did manage to break a mainstem on one of the ladies during the LST, but it healed up just fine so I left her as is. I have pics of progression from when they were small clones up until now, which I'm in 4th week of flower. I can provide those upon request if anybody is interested. But we all know what vegging plants and early flowering plants look like, and LEDs have no problem handling those stages. So I'll get right to the good part! The part we are all concerned about when considering LEDs, and whether or not they can hang with HPS, and possibly even do better. So here we are at week 4 (29 days today, pics are from a couple days ago), and I can say that things have been right on pace with what I'm used to. If they can keep up the pace, and finish rock hard and dense like I'm used to with this particular pheno of ARC, then I'll be quite pleased and even consider getting more of these panels as they are VERY efficient, and have given me no problems whatsoever. I even had the plants right under them at one point before I began the LST, and didn't get any bleaching. Also had the panel at 20" or so above the plants at first and seen no signs of extra stretch or anything. So too much, and too little intensity is not an issue with these. Very user friendly, unlike some other models/brands I've tried. Another interesting thing with these LEDs is that they use 9w diodes, which I think is pretty cool. Anywho, on with the show!:

Now for some closer shots of the two strains. First is Alien Rock Candy. This pheno leans heavily on the Tahoe side of things, but has the wonderful added terpenes of the Sour Dubbs. It's like a flavor enhanced Tahoe OG IME, and will put you on your ass just like Tahoe can do. I love this cut and hope to never lose it!!:

Now this is my first run with this cut of Arctic Fallout in flower. I stress tested her and 2 other phenos during veg, and she was the clear winner, as the others barely even survived the tests. Only the strong survive in my grows. So far I can tell she is Snow Lotus leaning, because she isn't getting that funky Chem smell, plus she's got some running cola action going, and Chem '91 doesn't do running colas:

That's it for now. As I said, I would be happy to share more pics and info upon request. I'll continue to update the progress as we move along. Thanks for anybody who decides to peak in, and all comments, tips, advice and criticism are welcomed. Peace!

Everything looks good grower.........Don't bother inoculating the cocco if your using ph down(citric/phosphoric/sulfuric) acid=== waste of beni bac product/$$

Have you had the chance to use the new veg+bloom (dirty) formula yet???

Whats's up bro...you finally made it over here. Should get plenty of action compared to TSD. This is a the best led community.

Looks good. Chem 91 is on my bucket list so arctic fallout has always interested me.

I have come up with a plan to bring 12/12 quicker! WooHoo! Need to change my 6 plant system to one that can hold alot more plants?

I didnt notice if you mentioned taking the glass out of the LED Panel?

Thanks for Sharing my Friend!

Peace

Can you go into this more or do you have a link. I have been using myco products and use pH down to get my water where I need it.

That's why I use citric acid, as it's an organic ph down. But I hear you on the phosphoric and sulfuric acids. Besides I inoculate the coco because I start plants off using minimal nutes and no additives that will kill the bennies. It's mostly just to get the roots a good foundation before I go into flower and start using higher concentrations. I have not used the Dirty formula V+B, but if I was growing in soil I would certainly consider it. From what I gather, the main difference is the alkalinity, since soil feed should be more alkaline than hydro feed.

Haha yea thanks! May be a LED vet, but 3 years is far from anywhere near a growing vet, hence I will be a newbie for a long time to come lol.

Thanks for the welcome! Yea man I already have more action here and it's only been a few hours since I posted my grow lol. And I feel you on the Chem '91, if I could get that clone I'd be a happy man! But of all the Chems I've tried in my days, if I could choose one it would have to be the Snodawg. That shit right there is just killer!!! I have some Eskimo Kush from Divine that is super great and I found a nice blended pheno of Katsu Bubba and Snodawg. Aaaah the many flavors of cannabis!!:weed:

You know I did consider doing so, but I was already many weeks into the grow once it was suggested. So I figure I could take it out after this grow and see if things go better next round. Thanks for joining the fun!!

It takes a certain level of P (phosphorus, phosphoric acid is not good for bennies), 60ppm or more, to make the environment unsuitable for myc. fungi to replicate and form colonies. And that's just thing. Most synthetic nutes have things in them that will hinder bennies, and even kill them.

Forgot to add a pic of how the LED panel looks, and pic of my grow space with the light in there. Here's what I'm working with, and note that I now have two panels in there since about 35 days ago:

I'm subbed up. Those are some interesting looking chips in the panels. Looks good so far!
Looks good to me. I'd be real happy with that production considering 130w draw.
^What they said. I actually bookmarked a thread with a post of yours saying you were starting a journal, just so that I could find you again and check if you did. :P

I customized your avatar for you, because I like it a lot, and I think it's way more badass this way. You don't have to use it.

Acids wreak havoc on bacterial colonies and need to be constantly reinoculated====wasting product. Even citric acid is used as a mild disinfectant, just because its organic doesn't mean that it will 100% benefit a "living" soil.Personally I believe that using these benibac products outside of soil(self-buffer) is wasteful due to the recommended ph..... But like I always say, If it works for you than use it......no problems

Ah that makes sense on establishing a large root system before adding salt based fert.......The dirty is more alkaline, so be perfect for peat based mixes. thanks for the info.............Subbed grower...............good luck

Thanks and welcome. I too was pretty intrigues with the chipsets. I've always wanted to run a panel using 5w diodes or larger.

Yes the single panel did very well for the veg stage. But remember I now have two in there. One was added a few days before flowering, making for a total of ~260w.

Thanks DAT!! Glad to have you along another adventure, as well as following another one of yours. I have not messed with opening these panels yet. After this grow I will do that, and I'll grab some flicks to share. They do contain fans. The units are actually very lightweight and easy on the eyes compared to other LEDs I've used. Also they don't bleach plants when too close which is a BIG advantage for the stealth/cabinet grower. I would like you to get a shot at some Alien Rock Candy sometime. I did pollinate a bud on each strain, plus I did the same last round as well. So I have a decent amount to play with.

Yep that's the idea. And thanks for your info as well, and for following along!
Lookin really good 619er. I took the glass panel out and right off the bat a huge difference. Youre plants look GREAT. I'm basically new to the growing community and love to keep up with current growers. sub'd up for sure. if anyone has the time.........................https://www.rollitup.org/led-other-lighting/672242-led-grow-1-check-out.html
Cool man I did not notice yours were taken out. Definitely interested to see if it makes a difference next round. Will be watching for you results. Peace!

When I took the Glass out of 1 of my units, I noticed how WELL it was Built! The MOST impressive feature was the LARGE Aluminum Heat sync the Diodes are mounted to, But since we are Testing these panels for a Friend, I didnt want to give away any Trade Secrets with pics? I am CONFIDENT that some of the features of THESE Panels will become an industry Standard for Quality!

Its made THAT AWESOME!

thats awesome MEdsCientist. I would love to see what your talking about with the pictures of the inside of the unit. What do those large aluminum heat sync thingys your talkin about? If your friend needs another tester for his panel please let him know im available.lol..I sent back my area 51 led light because it was too difficult for me to fix. I could only get the panels about 4 inches apart to get inside to try to work on it. Then once inside it was very very confusing and overwhelming. Im so bummed about not having things worke out with that light i could cry. Why O why did i have to get the lemon? I do have pictures of the inside of it........
heeeelllloooooooo 619ster.. i looked into my crystal ball last night and guess what i saw........... visions of big delicious fat ewwy gewwwy limited edition horder collection fruity pebblez buds in your future...............

Led's have come a long way recently, I'm very impressed man great work!
I agree, LEDs are becoming more and more impressive as the years go. Thanks for the kind words!

Oh wow already issues with your LED? Sucks to hear. Hopefully you have it back up and running in no time! My 2010 models haven't had any probs since, well.... 2010 LOL! Gotta love how long they last! I'd have ran through at least 4-6 bulbs in that time. And I like the way your crystal ball works!!!! Where'd ya get it? I could use one that actually likes to see the future going my way haha. I sent ya an email! Hope youur weekend is going swell!

And now for a week 5 update. Not much to say other than I am impressed to see the light keep up production with a 1000w HPS. The reason I say this is because I always have to tie up my ARC buds at week 5 when growing under 1000w HPS. Of course the wattage and production will not be as much as 1000w, but the bud mass and pace at which they are growing is equal to what happens when grown under 1000w HPS, and I'm only using ~250w of LEDs! So like clockwork, it's now 5 weeks in and my buds are beginning to cause the plants to collapse. Time to bust out the bamboo stakes and string! Here are some mixed shots, lights on and lights off. The first hairy looking buds are from the Arctic Fallout. The ARC is the rest:

Lights off pics don't come out so clear. I need to get a cfl in there for picture taking:

Peace!!!

Plants are beginning to collapse!! I had to add stakes to two plants (ARC on the left, and Arctic Fallout which is on the left as well). Will likely have to stake up the other two as they are already both slowly falling towards the middle. They are only still up because they are supporting each other. I don't want to risk mold so I need to get the buds seperated and upright. This is a pain to do, but right on schedule to what happens in week 5 when growing the same strain under HPS. Never fails! These LEDs are doing great still so far!!! Just wish I had anticipated this and put a screen in there lol.

Oh well. Live and learn. Time to meditate on over some Venom OG:
