600w in 3x3x6 or 4x4x6?

OK so im going to buy a tent for my flowering side of my grow, Im going to have a 600w in a air cooled hood.

The plan is im going to be growing 4 plants in that tent. I was wondering which size would be better to go with.

the issue im having is space vs lumen PsF

in a 3x3 tent a 600w puts of 10,222 lumen psf
and in a 4x4 tent the 600w puts out 5750 lumen psf but i would have more space.

My question is whould i get a better yeild in the 3x3? or would the 4x4 yeild better?

How long are you going to veg for, are you training it, scrog?

Like hey lumens are good, but take into account how big your plants are going to be, how large it's going to be and what not... if your growing some big shit your going to want more space

I was helping this dude nas2007... I think your grow and his would be similar.. hes in a 1.2m x 1.2 2m tent I think

Theres a lot of good info and links in there.. a fair amount by myself that I could avoid regurgitating if you go through and take some time and read his grow. Learn from mistakes made and tips provided by other users will no doubt apply to you too.

If space is no issue, I'd go with the 4x4.
Supplemental lighting is easy to add, tent space isn't.
Also, if you find that you really have too much space... you can
always make the interior dimensions of the 4x4 tent 3x3 with some
poly/ductape (assuming external space is no issue).
In a week or so I'll be experimenting with some 2x2x4 tents, and a 4x4x6.
I'll let you know how it goes. The tents and hardware are free, so people don't
bother posting to tell me I'm stupid.

3x3 would yield better (in theory better light reflection), however the 4x4 will be easier to work in. If you are doing soil, you can just move things around, but next grow you will probably want to upgrade, maybe less so in a 4x4 space. Why not a 4x4 with a 1000 watt? just a thought.

Use the rule of thumb: 50watts per square foot of growing floor space.

3x3 = 09 sq ft, which is 450 watts.
4x4 = 16 sq ft, which is 800 watts.

I would go with the 3x3, if you have an air cooled hood.

I am using a 3x3, and im running 400w...no air cooled hood. Its around 80-85 in a room temp of 70-75. 400w is slightly under the recommended wattage, but i am having very good results...

You can also check out the major brands of grow tents (Hydro-Hut, Grow Lab, Sun Hut, Secret Jardin, etc... Some of them have recommended tents for 600w.

Hydro-Hut says that you can use a 600w in either a 3x3 or 4x4, though its on the low scale in the 4x4.

I am using a 400 watt for 12 cubic feet & it works just fine so I would opt for the 4x4 while you can & can upgrade your light later on

Good luck

ok i plan on veging for 6 weeks, ill have two tents, my vege tent will be a DR80 grow tent with 2 200w cfls , and flower tent is still undecided, Ive seen the 3x3 tent at a freinds house who also grows and every time i look i wonder if it will be enough.

Do you think ill have enough space if i vege for 6 weeks?

Hmm...I've vegged anywhere between 2-4 months before putting them in....because of my unique rotation schedule.

But heres what i do to keep them short for flowering:

- Veg them until they get about 18"-21" in height.
- Start pinching at 18" if you're going longer...usually i pinch at about 4 weeks if im vegging 2 months or longer.
- When they're about 21"-24" you should put them into 12/12.
- Once in 12/12, pinch the tops for the first 2 weeks to keep them short.

*By pinch the tops, i mean pinch below each new growth when the stem is about 2mm or more. If its thinner than that, pinching may hurt it.

With this method, I've kept them under 48" total height at the end of flowering...and that was with a 40/60 Indica/Sativa ratio....Lemon Kush. It wouldve gone 6ft or more if I hadn't pinched it. This method also lengthens the side branches, and keeps the plant bushier.

counting lumens your looking at around 6k for the 4x4 space and 11k for the 3x3. thats plenty in the 4x4 and 3x3 just limits you for what little gain you have. i use a 400w cmh over a 3x4 space, not ideal, but really grows some sick bud.

dont get too caught up in the math, a 600 in a 4x4 will be awesome, at some point i am upping my light to a 600 with the 400 cmh on at different times daily or weekly.

4x4 man, and with a really high CFM fan for exhaust you can bring ur interior walls in a few inches. then again if u down the road decide to upgrade you can just turn the speed of the fan down a bit so you get ur space back.

That sounds cool man, have you got a journal or some pics of your grow i could take a look at?
