Just curious to see if anybody knows what would happen, or if the 600 would be brighter... I've thought about (and even purchased several) cfls to increase light, but this is my last grow and I don't want to buy another ballast... I have 12 girls (hopefully) vegging in a 3'x4' closet, excellent exhaust (temps stay around 70). and i'm hoping to have @ least half female once flowering starts. I want to have a max yeild with what i've got, b/c my girls are 10 white widow, and 2 bubble gum and since it's my last grow.....etc... I understand that the ballast will only produce 400W, but with the bigger bulb will it be brighter? idk...

Purphaze I got a question for you. Im about to have 12 babies in a 4x4 room with a 600 watt hps. You said you keep your temps around 70 because you have excellent exhaust. Could you give me a run down of your ventilation setup. This will be my first grow and i have been reading a lot about ventilation. And I see a lot of people getting CoolTubes in a small grow space to keep their temps down. The thing is I want better a better reflector then the cool tube aka the Double Parobolic Adujust-a-Wing and was wondering which fans to get and ways keep my Temps down in such a small space. I was looking at the Vortex 6 In or the Soler & Palau inline/exaust. Any help or input with your setup would be great.

cigol, go to radio shack, they have an inline exhaust fan there that moves 85cfm for under $20... then just find a plug that matches, strip your wires and connect (can't do it wrong, as it only works one way) and hook that to drier hose, just outside of your grow closet,.. (I rent a trlr and just cut a hole from my closet to the spare room's bathroom(ha ha ha)) that should be enought vent... I also leave the door open a hair with a fan blowing in, ...AND, I ran some of that drier hose from my floor vent into the middle of my grow box... the a/c doesn't run my light bill up and I never worry about overheating.....

Thank you for your response, appreciate it. Some more ?s.So, that fan from RS that pushes 85cfm, is that enough to properly vent the room? I have a Home Box XL which is about 4x4x6-7 and was going to use a vortex or the soler which both push over 400cfm, but they cost much more. If i could get away with the one from RS then I would love to do that. As far as smell and everything do you pull air through a carbon filter or anything? Because I dont feel like 85 CFM would be enough to push or pull air through my carbon filter.

I forgot a few fans! one mid size one in the back corner that oscilates and a small fan directly across from my vent which sits on one side of my light....so I have a small dollar store fan hanging from my hood (had it made @ a sheet metal shop for $60 bucks btw and it is HUGE ! ! ! as in 2'x2' ha ha, I just drew up the plans and they made it w/stainless drops, w/tabs to hook on top, angles on the sides, mounting tab underneath..etc) blowing across the light and the vent on the other side... as for the carbon scrubber, i'm not getting one....I have an extra bedroom w/extra bthrm, gonna close off the bathroom(that the exhaust blows into) and take a 5gal bucket, drill holes in the top half on the sides, then buy a large Febreeze to pour in it, take another dollar store fan (I have several, ha ha) and insert that inside of the bucket, blowing out of a hole in the top... and if need be, i'll put one in the actual room as well.... I have a rigged setup, but it works VERY well, and there is hardly any smell.... this is prob my 20th grow
