trying to figure out the best possible scenario here....
. I'm gonna have about 15 plants in a 5x 5 room.
600 watt MH will give about 90,000 lumens. a 4ft with 8 T5s in it @ 54watt/5000lumens per tube will give me 432watts/40,000lumens.
the cost to get these systems it's about the same so..... which one and why?

How tall are you going to veg them and what are the temps in there? If you aren't going very tall and the temps are warm go T5. If you are going to go taller and temps not an issue go MH, better penetration to the bottom of the plant.

prob about 2ft max if that and right now temp is not an issue because its winter and i wouldn't wanna say it wont be in the summer but being as it may, the growroom is in the basement so i'm not that worry about heat, my main concern is getting the max lumens/wattage in the room for all the plants.
the way i see it, T5 is cooler and uses less energy and you can drop it pretty close to the canopy but since i will have about 15 plants in probably 3 or 5gl pots which tells they will be spread out a bit due to the size of the pots i'm not sure i will get the best out of the light.
the MH has more, lots more lumens [twice as T5] and more wattage and consumes more electricity and can't get too close to the canopy unless you have a fan blowing/sucking heat from the light.
that's my take on the situation- whattya guys think??

thx.....

Why are you wanting MH?

HPS, MH, and T5 are very different lights. HPS is the best and can net you about 1 gram per watt. HM are about 10% less powerful than HPS. That means your MH will get you 0.9 grams per watt. T5 is about 25% less powerful than HPS. So the T5 will get you 0.75 grams per watt.

The advantage to HPS is that you get the most bud for your watts. The advantage of MH is that it will increase the potentcy of your bud because the light emits UVB rays. The advantage of T5 is that it's low heat so you can stick those light real close to your plants and get fat buds.

There's a lot to think about...

600 watt HPS is the "best" light it can get you about 1.1 grams per watt

If heat isn't an issue and you don't care about that 0.1 extra gram per watt then buy a 1000 watt HPS. Some 1000 watt models cost the same as the 600 watt models.

this is just for veg, I have 1000HPS flower room....
isn't the MH for veg, on the cool spectrum?

I have vegged the same strain under both MH, and T5 HO. Because i run an over/under (Flower cab over a veg cab) and heat is an issue for me, I do all veg under T5 HO 6500k, researchkitty who can use anything she wants runs T5 HO for veg as well.

After flowering under HPS there was no difference between T5 and MH, in my experence.

Beez, agree with what you are thinking. In pots that size and heat not really an issue I would go MH. That said by a guy who uses T5s. Good luck!
