I'm running 5 3590's in a 2 x2.5 tent. 250 watts total.
During grow, I keep the light about 2 feet from the plants and dimmed to about 75% total output.
During flower, I turn the light to full and move it down closer to the plants, about 18 inches.

You turn it up and see if you get any bleaching. 1400mA is only 50watts.

this is the best advice you have here. i have seen growmau5 and others run as close as 2 or 3 inches but that was 700ma not the 1400 you have.so if you dim yours to 50% you can run them very close in both veg and flower.i have my 1050ma cobs @ 18 inches above the tops and running at 100% and im getting plenty of light down low.pushing them until they bleach is terrible advice lol.

ive got plenty of vertical height so i can keep them back a good bit - no way would i run them a few inches away, i tried that with my Mars light but its just way too close
thanks

The LED is a strong enough light to do the plants harm, not heat harm but light harm. You want that NOT to happen, the happier the grow, the happier the grower.

I've got as close as a foot away, but any closer is too close. I was told you will get foxtails if the buds get heat/light stressed. I don't want foxtails...

My tent. Also the led is turned down a bit.

50w at 2 inches will burn the tops but at 6 inches will be fine.

I haven't got any first hand experience with lower wattages and plants being close to lights but I'd have thought 20w might be ok at 2 inches.

well theres alot that goes into light distance.i mean i run 600hps @ 4 to 6 inches from the canopy but my lights move.plus if your feeds and enviro are spot on you could get away with running cobs really close.but you will def lose coverage running cobs too close to plants and waste alot of photons imo.
