i was going to buy a rubbermaid tote for a res in my cabinet for a dwc grow. but i have a 5 and 10 gall bucket here. i need room for other plants besides ones on the bucket so looking at the 5 and 10 gall, it seems the 10 gal is just taller with about the same area as the 5 on the top lid. my q is, how many plants could i grow in the 10 gal? vs 5 gal? and should i just buy a 10-15 gal tote? ganna usr 3-4" net pots and hydroton and rockwool for my clones. thanks

I would say the amount of plants isnt really why you would go with a larger res.
The size of the top isnt much bigger.

Its the amount of time between res changes. You get some big plants in a 5 gal and you may have to change out twice a week where a 10 would go all week.

There might be different reasons for buying a larger res and one of them might indeed be to have more surface area so more plants could be spread out. Extra depth doesn't give you much. I just spent a lot of time looking for a larger tote that was still only 12-13 inches deep so it would have more surface area. Hard to find but I got a 15 gal tote that is only 12 1/2 inches deep. It depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

Thats true, But you can get the same amount of smoke out of fewer plants by vegging a bit longer and training them. My last tub I cut 10 holes and used 7 Do you think you could fit any more in here?

I am using a 5 gal. bucket right now and there is lots of root room in there, and it is also cheap. and u can get a bigg yield out of the 5 gal!!!bongsmilie
