:leaf: Hello,
I am starting a grow with a 4x8 grow tent and two 600w Magnum xxxl hoods w/ lumatek ballasts. Any idea on if this will be enough light and what kind of a yield difference there would be if i were to use 2 1000w bulbs? I will be flowering 16 plants in the area using Hempy bucket method. Any input is appreciated. Thanks! :leaf:

2-600s is sweet for a 4x8. But you may want to consider something like a yield master hood for the 600s. The magnums are really not that effectively used with anything less than a 1000. Dont get me wrong, they are awsum hoods and would work ok with a 600. But I think you could a better control of the footprint and penetration with a smaller hood.

lol...super lumens? sounds like a marketing gimmick to me. Your @ 37.5 watts/sq. ft. You will have satisfactory results with these duel 600's. With duel 1000's u would be around 62 watts/sq. ft., much better, more yield. I run a 32 sq. ft. set up too, powered by (2) 1000 watt nextgens.

It' just a setting on the ballast. Puts a bit more power to the lamps. I agree though, stupid name, very gimmicky.

I run a 6oo lumatek. The superlumen does up output about 10%. I have checked it with my light meter. Plus you can pop 400 watt bulbs in them, turn to 400 or 430 watts and save a few bucks.

2 x 600 lights are more than sufficient for your tent, if you were to use 1000 watters you would have to most likely run a cool tube to control the heat.
I would recommend a cool tube or two for your tent even with the 600's alot easier to control the climate.

I wonder what kind of effect that super lumen setting has on bulbs? When I bought my nextgen I researched all electronic ballasts. I remember not going with the lumateks specifically cause of the super lumen setting. I feel like if a company needs to use a gimmicks to corner part of the market then I really didn't want to give them my money.

To the OP, If you haven't bought the magnum hoods yet, I would recommend going with a smaller hood. I run 6" magnums over a table and they really eat up space. They become a problem when trying to run ducting. My setup is actually 9x4 and it is still pretty tight. GL

i have a 6x6 and two 600 work bomb. i grow them in 5 gallon buckets. whould it be better to put them in maybe a 4 or a 3 gallon bucket and put more plants in it.

what strain(s) are you running and whats your yield? I use 3 gallon buckets, i tried 5 gallon buckets and it was a complete waste for me. Plus it was a pain in the ass using big ass buckets.

I'm guessing the super lumen setting will shorten the life of the bulb. Beyond that, I don't know. I bought lumateks because that's what my hydro shop carries. I also like the idea of dimmable lights. It's handy for acclimatising plants. So far I have no complaints.

Thanks for the quick replies, all of the info is much appreciated! My hopes with the Magnum xxxl hood was to be able to air cool and keep them really close to the plants while at the same time keeping a wide light spread. I will Journal my first grow with the setup and we shall see what happens.
