4'x5' window light proof vent

I have been trying to find ideas for venting out my windows in a light proof manner. Actually I would like to use the windows as a passive intake. Although one window will have a light trap box that i will be exhausting. the last picture is the idea i originally had. Then i found the painted Styrofoam box idea (although i still think i would make it out of plywood) The first two are extra ideas for you to help me out or for future newbs. I also found premade jobs for photo black rooms. http://www.amscousa.com/Door_Hardware/Lites_and_Louvers/Anemostat_Door_Louvers_Inverted_Y.htm. I prefer the diy idea over the premade job. What do you guys think at riu?

hey man, I have the same set up as you and I did the plywood idea w/black mesh over the plywood and then small black chicken cage w/ wood trim on the outside so it looks nice. Not sure if you can picture it but I really like the hardware you found, you dont like that?

Pic #4 is perfect. Same basic design as solar passive. However, if the opening is low (your room) and exhausts low by force, thermodynamics will be helping you move it. Going around a sharp bend is hard on air being moved. Going 180 is definitely a velocity robber.blower1.jpg

Weird position for that pic but check that out. $30 at Burdens 190 CFM 120VAC. I used to work years ago at a solar panel manufacturer for air and water systems. The wider openings were utilized and never circular with little fans. Much more efficient usage of your vent with similar shape.

In short, cut a rectangular opening and mount this to it with 4 simple screw.

are those blowers light proof? the 180 did seem like a velocity robber. I have an approx 20x20 room with 12 lights im looking to vent. Would one of those be enough? I plan to have a canfan 150 with the 14inch fan for exhausting heat then use the window as a passive intake. Would one cross flow blower work for the intake port? Do you have actual experience with the blower? Thanks so much for replying guys. For a while I thought my thread was going to go unnoticed. g35driver would you happen to have any pics? As for the hardware the diy route would be faster (no shipping time) and cheaper. Although it would be nice to screw in a piece of plywood painted white and just cut out a rectangle and screw in the cross blower or the door louvers.

hmmm I wouldn't feel safe venting out a window. if by chance some jackass with a thermal imaging camera were to drive by you would be lighting up like grow room, they can't pick up when venting into the house. but hey thats only if some jackass with a thermal imaging camera drives or flys by. better used as an intake

that's like saying i wouldn't feel safe using more than one grow light because some jackass at the power plant can look up to see who's using the most power in the neighborhood. Or saying we shouldn't grow weed indoors because of the conspiracy theory that all consumer electronics have tags in the way they power up that are identifiable by the government. But yes it is food for thought. I do plan to vent into the house for the flower at least.

I'm in a MMJ state with a valid card so....its not that I'm worried about. I am just a bit confused on how to set that up is all.....especially when venting out a window from a tent.
