4x4x6 Brand new setup, trying to decide on light.

I’ve spent a few weeks trying to research and learn what I can about LED’s and quantum boards. After lurking this site I have found two options that seem like a perfect fit:

As I’m in Canada, some options are limited. While I’m not against building my own, I would prefer to either build a kit or purchase pre-made setups. My budget for the light is $1000 CAD, would you order all the parts separately and build just to save a couple hundred bucks? I feel pretty dead set on going this route but I will take any experience I can find!

I will be using a rdwc/dwc setup and plan to grow two plants in this space till I have everything in order (4 plants in the future if this setup can support it).

Any comments, thoughts, or grow journals/builds are greatly appreciated and I’m open to changing anything as the tent and filter/fan is all I have atm. Whatever is decided I will be doing as detailed a grow journal as I can.

1000$ for a 4x4 is overkill in my opinion. Myself I’m partial to DIY strip builds. You can get your self a pretty decent setup for less then 500$. And that would include extra bells and whistles.

You can get cheap and cheerfull alternatives on Alibaba. Meijiu, King brite and R2T have good rep and equivalent versions.
id look into bc blondes as well as they are canada based. Full/semi DIY are all very easy if you set up a grow room before.

You wont find a better deal than the cutter kit. So just get that. Plus with it, you can actually move the boards along the rails if you want to. That's by far the best deal and value out there right now.

that kit comes with driver? will the driver be warrantied in US?

Also, with only 6 feet to play with: that fixture and hanging height is going to eat up 20-24 inches if you run it at full power.
Is a taller tent an option? with pots, tray and lights taking up almost half the actual space it only leaves for around 3 feet for plants

or more diffused, spread out lighting. personally id go for 8-9 china boards, theyre only around 35 each to your door. On 2 hlg240 or 1 hlg480. run them soft so you wont need any heatsink which saves a lot in cost, weight and height. also more efficient, more even spread and thus lower hanging height.

The kit uses Meanwell drivers. But if you were concerned about the driver we can supply a driverless option and you can procure the driver locally

I have a 7’4” ceiling and the tent is actually 6’8” I could move to a 8’ ceiling but 80” is the tallest tent I could find. I don’t mind running vents for the heat. How would you space the boards?

I really like the products but I can’t seem to do better than the cutter kit

I agree 100% but the build when I price it is only a hundred less(850 for the kit) and I’m not entirely confidant everything goes together. Do you have a build example?

Hahaha can you think of a light tjats honestly any thinner? The QB builds are about as thin as you can go.

Cutter is great for boards. Not up on current prices. What i suggest is any config that spreads the light out a bit more. Strips/boards whatever. If you double up on boards you can either set them up in a square config or if you want to back them with alu: 4 pieces of alu with 2 boards each. You could also put 3x3 boards in your space but chances are you will have a hotspot in the middle.

Aw16, im not talking about the fixture height im talking about hanging height for 120w qbs. They go high, 24" or they bleach. Max 3 foot plants is no good really, means that every time you flipp youll be sweating the stretch. It would be much better with a light that only eats away 1 foot approx. You know all this if you think about it.

OP, this is the dude that runs Cutter. Apart from samsung qbs they have some very interesting strips with custom flowering spectrums. Strips is also a very good idea for spread out light.

How do you like the light you built there? Any progress on your perpetual grow? I’m also trying to work towards being successful with the 4 plant max and will watching for any update from you, thanks!

I’m building a small 2x2 box at the moment to start the perpetual. And for breeding purposes. The lights great my two grows under the setup yielded a tad over a g/watt. Nice dense nugs. Really frosty. Here’s an example of some of the plants and buds. I’m pushing 240 Watts. And the whole thing cost me around 220$ including the aluminum L bars for the frame.
