4x4x6.5 tent (2) 315w cmh help please

Hey so I’ve got some questions. First I’d like to put down my setup and then I plan on using this as a journal as well. However before we start I need some advice and then I can get rip roaring and ready. I haven’t seen many cmh journals so this is why I want to help our community.

Setup:
4x4x6.666’ tent
6” 420cfm exhaust fan exiting top of tent because I thought heat rises.
(2) 40” tower fans that oscillate positioned kiddie corner from each other in corners.
(2) 315w cmh open reflectors.
Smart pots aka 5gal fabric pots

For veg I’m using one 315w cmh only. I intend on using both during bloom.

Questions:

I have (2) 40” tower fans. Is that too much for seedlings? Worried about windburn. Currently I’m only using one.

- will 1 carbon filter (ipower) be enough for 4-5 plants?

- what height should I keep my 315w cmh from seedlings? I read on here 12” , 18”, 3’, 4’. No one has a clear answer. Right now it’s probably 3’ away and running 18hr

-when vegging should I go 4/5 weeks and flip? I heard longer doesn’t pay off and I heard 5 week is perfect.

-during bloom when I rock 2 315w cmh since they have ballast attached should I have ballasts turned to center or face them outwards. They are those Home Depot hydro crunch 315w.

Strains :
White label- purple haze fem
Freedom of seeds- Godberry fem
Humboldt seed org- chocolate mint OG
Spliff seeds- blue Medi Kush
00 seeds- bubblegum

Bless you for all the advice that comes my way. Hope to show the beautiful strains and what these lights can do. Using 1 hydro crunch cmh and one Phillips. Both 3100k

Last question. When using the tower fan will I need to be watering my seedlings in solo cups more now since it’s blowing air over them? Without the fan I was doing it every 2 days but I’d assume it would dry out sooner with the 40” fan moving so much air.

I would go easy on the amount of air circulation, it is good to have a steady flow of air however in the seedling stage I would not subject them to winds that cause a violent swaying of their leaves.A mild amount of movement where by the leaves casually sway gently is optimal, if you are really concerned. However seedlings, especially in pre-vegatative stage (where they are still trying to establish their roots, instead of focusing energy towards growth that would be seen in the vegetative phase.) should not be subjected to winds that will cause unnecessary stress. For the question of watering, yes the fans focused on the plants can dry out the grow meduim at a increased rate resulting in a more religious watering schedule needed. You can get away with having a fan just blowing the air above the seedling to ensure good internal air circulation in the environment , without the moving air swaying the seedling.
Please keep use posted on the result of the grow, would love to see how your Purple Haze turn out.I was considering growing Purple Haze myself in the next grow I run.

Hope this helps and Happy Growing.:bigjoint:

Yikes. I’ll just have the fan blow away from them and aid in circulation I guess. So people say week 5 to 12/12. Does that mean week 5 from breaking through soil?

Also one doesn’t have cotyledons. What gives? Kill it?

Usually they mean week 5 (or whatever) from rooted clone.
If your in soil then 2 months from seed then switch would be fairly standard id suggest.

I grew a choc mint OG, was a nice smoke

Sadly it’s the chocolate mint og that has no cotyledpns. Only tiny tiny set of two serrated leaves. Like micro leaves :’(

I would not just kill it but rather let it develop and document the result.I have never experienced a seedling not having cotyledons before, so take it as a suggestion.

Happy Growing.

My set up is very similar, two 315's, smart pots, 4x4x6.5 only I grow vertical and horizontal depending on the cycle.

You can check out my grows in my sig. I think you will be happy with the lamps.

Questions:

- will 1 carbon filter (ipower) be enough for 4-5 plants? Yes I run a 6" X 24" and get two to three runs out of it.

- what height should I keep my 315w cmh from seedlings? I read on here 12” , 18”, 3’, 4’. No one has a clear answer. Right now it’s probably 3’ away and running 18hr. I don't run the 315's for my seedling, I use a T5 lamp. I think the 315's will be to hot overall and at 3' your going to get too much stretch. I run the T5 close to canopy, a no more than two inches, raise as needed, with a light fan to my desired height then transplant.

-when vegging should I go 4/5 weeks and flip? I heard longer doesn’t pay off and I heard 5 week is perfect. Depends on your goals, I run 6 weeks when doing a vert run.

-during bloom when I rock 2 315w cmh since they have ballast attached should I have ballasts turned to center or face them outwards. They are those Home Depot hydro crunch 315w. I separate my ballast from my reflectors in both my vert and horizontal runs. And the ballast are outside my tent.

So not much to update. Got some advanced nutrients PH GROW, Micro, bloom. Not sure when I can start feeding. Been about two weeks and only second set of true leaves starting to show. Thinking about going from solo cup to 1 gal with FFOF or happy frog. Maybe the cheap seedling dirt I used is crap. Slow growth

Also how high should I have 1 315w cmh? Right now it was like 3’ away and they were doing. Ok. I moved it closer for one day maybe 26” away and they started to turn lighter green. Temps are 57rh and 85f. Just put in humidifier to help raise rh

You can use a low watt CFL or two get them close. At the height you are trying with the 315 @ 26" the seedlings will be very tall at stretchy, you need strong stem.

First pic bubblegum. Best grower but starting to look odd. Why?

Second pic godberry. Not as fast as others. Why?

Third and fourth pic. Purple haze. Looks pretty good?
You are heavy on the nutes dilute more. Don't water too often right now they can damp off
very easily.

I’ve not used any nutes yet. It’s 30-40% perlite and 60% fox farm happy frog.
They were in solo cups with seed starting mix. But I figured transplanting to one gal and better soil would help. So I did that a few days ago and the purple haze and the weird bubblegum seemed to liked it. Yet the others are just slow

They all have their own schedule patients is an acquired talent, you'll get it.

You think it could be overwatering? I think it might be. I stuck finger in and knuckle deep seems slightly damp but not wet so I usually water a day after that. I just don’t k ow how much to water. 250ml? Or half a bottle of water every 4 day? I’ll admit I was likely overwatering when the top soil felt dry

They just need a little bit you want the roots to go looking for water big roots = big plants
but keep them slightly moist not wet until you get about 3 leaf nodes.

After 3 nodes I can start watering a lot more and maybe using advanced nutrients trio at 1/4 strength? They could probably use a boost with how I tried drowning them lol
