Currently I have a 5x5 flower room with a HLG 600 it seems to be doing pretty good.
I need a light to cover a 4x4 tent, would you recommend another HLG light for veg or anything special you can lead me to? And im guessing 4000k spectrum.
Thanks

Id use the light you have.

While they do understate the power of the best 1000w HID at 1250 PPF.

The best Single Ended HID is the Hortilux HPS 1000w at 1600 PPF. The Halide probably has 1250, but the HPS 1000w comes in at 1600 PPF.

At that rate the LED is 60 PPF short of the Hortilux HPS x 1000w, but is not relevant, as the LED will keep its power much longer before it even starts to dim a little bit. The HID will lose 10% the first few weeks, and stabilize.

Also consider the Hortilux 1000w HPS is made to cover a 4 x 4 area. Your light is perfect for 4 x 4. You don't really need any more than that.

Your light being basically the same PPF will be perfect for a 4 x 4. You may want to get 4000k, but Ive seen studies that say the most important thing is Photons, and Light Intensity. Lumens Do Matter. Everything matters.

We veg with the 2100k Hortilux 1000w, and have for years, with no internode stretching. It is Blue Enhanced, just not a lot. It was the first HPS to be Blue Enhanced.
I did rrecently buy a Gavita 1700e for my buddy to use to try in Veg vs HID, as it would be nice to use 1/3 less electric, and get a couple 100 more umol.

Spyder 2i is 1700 umol, as is the Gavita 1700e.
New Phillips coming out is 635w, and 1800 umol, but they will only sell 40 at a time for $32,000.

If you were at the Equator, in the Andes Mountains, the young plants get blasted from day one with bright light. IMHO I like to have them growing as fast as possible before flowering, and to a point, the more light, the better.

Also consider the SUN is over 100w Sq/ft. More than 125w Sq/ft in the Andes.

And to cover a 4 x 4 area, you need 1000w equal. IMHO.

4000k is just fine.

Hoots wants to veg a 4 x 4. You guys are over doing it with the 1k hps or anything higher than 500 watts. But it's all preferential. If he has the cooling power for a 1k in a 4 x 4 tent then by all means do it. Otherwise it's just a barbecue waiting to cook stuff.

Hoots, I'm a reflector user but I really like the new 480 watt HLG Bspec for veg. I would love to buy one of these https://horticulturelightinggroup.com/collections/lamps/products/hlg-550-v2-bspec but they are a bit pricey for me. They have the perfect specs for a 4 x 4 and all around good lighting without cooking your babies.

I use a 600 watt bulb @ 75% the first week after planting clones then hit them with the full 100% (600 watts) after that. IMO, 600 watts is a bit much but to get the right spectrum the bulb has to be used @ 100%. I would much prefer the 480 watt HLG running @ 100% all the time over my method. It has great specs and it's easy to cool. If the price was around $700 I'd buy one. I've seen them for around $890 but still way too high for 480 watts in a veg room.

edit: saw the price drop right after posting this. It's down to $849 at HLG.
