Well, it is all depends how long you are growing to veg them for?

Like my current journal: I have 2- 1000 watts lights and the foot print is like a 5'x5' right now and my plants are around 2-3 feet tall. I have them 2 feet from the tops of my plants. How tall is ur tent?
My ceiling is 8 feet, So i put them into the flowering room when most of them were like a foot and a half. In 10 dayz the grown already 12-16 inches.

So to answer your question I will say 5-7 in a 5/4 gal pots. If you going with bigger pots like mine (10 gal) I will say 3 plants.

If I had a tent again...... I would STUFF it to the gills!
More Plants = More Weed
I worried too much over plant pot size (when I had my tent) and all my pots were just too big
If I had a tent again.... I would grow 12/12 and use 3 gal pots and FILL that tent with Gorgeous Ladies....... ;)

4x4... 4 plants,
1 each corner,
vertical hanging bulb with fan underneath,
4-6 weeks veg with 600w MH,
1x 600w HPS for flower (1000w if you use defoliation technique)

Too many plants = too much humidity in my experience, but try what works for you ;)

That was just my wham bam answer! lol

Unless SOG... I dont really ever see the point in cramming plants *shrugs*
With correct training/pruning, you can yield just as much if not more with more simplicity ;)
SCROG is a perfect example of what 1 plant can produce with training :)

Cheers Jimmy.

I've had as many as eleven in a 4x4, it was never my intention to run that many but I grew from seed and they all turned out to be ladies, didn't have the heart to kill any of them so I kept the bottoms really clean and the humidity down, it worked out. I then did a bunch of grows with just 4 ladies grown from clones in the same tent, the yield was a little lower but the quality was much better with the buds being both larger and more dense. Now, never being able to leave well enough alone I've moved to a 4x8 tent with 2 plants......but that's another story.

I guess it really depends on how you want to grow, I mean you could run 24 small plants in grodan blocks on a 4x4 table with a drip to waste system, flip them at about 12" and have 24 main kola's or run fewer and veg longer, problem with a lot of veg time is more humidity and all the nasty stuff that comes along with it. So many variables hard to give a "perfect" answer.

Much agreed. I got 4 in my 4x4 tent now topped twice and my tent is almost full. I use a 600w mh and 600w hps.

I would personally do 4 nice plants. That should leave you enough room, and you will get all the product you can from your lights and area. Peace

First off, look up your local penalties. For example, in Illinois anything over 4 is a felony so i tend to do 4 max.. . If you're growing legally then never mind this step...

Second, in my opinion, because you seem like a new grower, don't do too many plants. It gets harder the more plants you grow at the same time to really pay attention to each plants tendencies and needs.I made the mistake of starting to many my first grow and ended up wasting seeds, time, and money. And even the plants that I kept til the end suffered and never got to full potential. If I had to suggest a number I would go 4.

Lastly whatever number you go with, veg as long as you can, up until the entire space is almost filled with canopy. The longer veg will end up making your grow more forgiving to mistakes. Remember that once you flip there is a short stretch period and then the roots and foliage growth slows so recovering is difficult for your plants at that stage. Better to learn your ladies well during their most vigorous stage in life. And as always more veg/canopy= more yield.

P.s. when feeding start at really low dosages and work up. If your leaves are slowly turning a pale green then eventually yellow you should get increase feeding a bit. However if you see yellowing but with brown spots or edges feed is too strong. Flush and lower future feedings

And guys he cleary posted he has a 400w

Id say 4 would be perfect, its the maximum plants id want under that bulb and enough plants that your harvest will be decent and worth your time. If you do all your homework and go into this with a solid knowledge of the basics of growing cannabis then you shouldn't worry about screwing it up, if you go into it with a negative attitude that's the results you will get imho. I'd recommend growing all the same strain though as there needs and reactions will be the similar.

I would leave a little extra room and cover more like a 3z3 with a 400w... 4 plants max

Imo, a 400w only really covers about 2.5 x 2.5ft. Last time i used one...i put it over a 2x2..

Pickup a 600 if you can. The difference is HUGE...

If it was me...I would only put 2 plants under a 400w.

I agree theres a huge difference between 400w and 600w but not much from 600w to 1000w. I run a 600w hybrid(MH/HPS) and I get great results I tried my 1000w but it was to much for my 4x4 tent and was just heating it up and bleaching my plants for nothing.

I agree with 4 plants maybe topped once when young... 5 gallon final pots. Don't cram your rooms people leave 0.5 ft barrier around the inside of your tents so your plants aren't squished up against the walls. Let light and air get around them, it keeps temps and humidity down ! Use your lights properly!... 400w light in a 4x4 room covering a 3x3 space is what you want a 600w in at least a 5x5 with a 4x4 footprint. stop with all the cramming lights in small places and plants wall to wall your plants will love you for it. The plants will fill the space

I think 2-4 is the magic number for that size tent. I have the same size tent and a 400watt mh/hps I'm doing 4 right now but depending on how they grow I might cull them down to 2. I like to have some elbow room in my tent in case I need to make adjustments to equipment or plants.

I grew 4 in my 3 x 3 and will not do that again.
4 in a 4 x 4 is the most I would do.

more plants does not mean more weed.
Crazy fonts equal hurt brain.

1000w HPS in a 4x4 tent (4 plants) is pushing the limits (reason why I said defoliation)
It can work really well, but it pushes the limits.
There is something that I am about to try/experiment with now that was inspired by a peer using 600w bare bulbs around trees (1 plant surrounded by 4x 600w)

You take a 4x4 tent, put 2x plants side by side in the middle.
A vertical scrog screen across the middle of the tent.
Train the 2x plants to fill the screen vertically & across like a wall through the middle of the tent, and defoliation technique.

The kick being instead of a 1000w HPS, use of a splitter would be implemented (2x 600w HPS off a 1000w magnetic ballast)

The light is either side of the screen, in theory being greater yield, better quality buds, less plants and still using only 1000w...

Ive been having fun as a hobby to see what I can really do with a 4x4 tent for giggles ^^

When.. I get around to finishing these screens, I might actually post up a journal ;)

Cheers Jimmy.

Interesting replies. Thanks guys!! I'm afraid to surge the power in my apartment. So I will work up to 1000w. For now ill do either 400w or 600w. What abut a 400w and supplement with a few cfls. Is that retarded?

You can fit.... 48 plants in 2-3 gallon grow bags in a 4'x4' tent.....
I have 4'x8'PIC_0045.jpg this is half the tent.
Humidity is NOT a problem.
Heat is controllable with intake and exhaust fans.
