hey guys I’ve done a good amount of research but looking for some better advice. I’m putting up another 4x4 tent and would like to build a DIY led rack. I was leaning towards quantum boards because it seems they have a wider light spread (more smaller boards), but I’m open to anything. I would like to do it as cheap as possible but still have sufficient output from the light? Any recommendations on LED setups on a budget

I found them to be an ok supplier. Dont expect them to be HLG quality but defo good enough for the $, at least S5 bin. Cant quite find the link now.
The way i use these is by running them comparably soft, around nominal or about 150w max per 800 board which means running them about twice as soft as HLG run their diodes. This means you more or less make up for whatever efficiency you gain by using top of the line diodes, but it also comes with more benefits:
- no heatsink necesary, save on shipping.
- much better spread and lower hanging height.
- the cheaper price means that you can make designs that would be too expensive with HLG boards, it opens doors to new ways of lighting your cannopy.

Negative: connectors are a bit cheapish, be carefull with them. As they are china boards they wont pass inspection if youre rhnnjng a legal comercial grow.

My goto advice for large open space grows, based on a 4x4 foot print:
3 Fotops on a hlg480-48 makes a 4 foot wide and 3 foot long mega board, fit 1 of them for each 3.5- 4 foot section.

If you get in touch with rita just ask for FoTop boards, lm561c, 3000k 80cri, S6 bin. Make sure you get sone 4way wagos aswell. Buy the driver more locally if you ever have to send it back for warranty service. Digikey.com works fine for driver.

Many prefer Samsung strips for their superb distribution of the light and better heat dissipation. They are available with the same LM301B and LM561C diodes used on boards. Dozens of strip builds here on RIU....

Do you know if they've got 90cri? Isn't it a much better spread of red in its spectrum?

3w leds are generally less efficient than midpower diodes. Also the process is a PITA and will probably end up more expensive. The FoTop boards in my previous answer are just around 75 $ anyway...

Fine with no heatsink up to 200w. But i like 150w better, around nominal or similar to a qb around 55w.
Setup an array of FoTops with about 5inches between them, run them at max 150w each and you got a killer light for anything directly under it.
Even at 100w per board you can flower with it but youll yove to get it down to 4 inches or so.

And you run 3? For 450w or 4 for 600? In a 4X4 right?

Go for 4! You wont regret it. If you buy only lm561c boards theyre they around 75-80$ and getting an extra board doesnt change shipping too much until they need a another package. 6 boards to a package.
Also at 200w the hotspot in the middle of the board is more pronounced.

So you'd have to pay for 2 packages if you wanted to do 4 per 4X4 like you said at 150w per board.
