ok, i just tested a gallon of tap water and the ph was about 8. i started out with 10 drops of ph down and then did 10 drops at a time and it took 40 drops to get it to 6.6. i have plenty of ph down, so i guess i will use tap water. anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thats exactly how I do it. Except I go with 1 teaspoon per gallon if I'm using straight water. Remember when you add that molasses and tiger bloom it will lower the ph, the tiger bloom you probably wont need any ph down depeding on how much your using per gallon.

When you start the grow big and big bloom I would almost bet your going to have to add the full 40 drops or however you measure it out to get back to 6.6 though. Those 2 really don't effect the ph much :)

This is going to save you some time and if your plants are like mine they will love it :)

i just did a search and all i come up with is the feeding schdule, well, i wont nute for a little while with whats in the soil.
Thats what I would do to play it safe. I know in the seedling stage they don't need any nutes, and as you know I've started plants off in rockwool and they will do great for 1-2 weeks with just straight water. Not to mention the nutes that are in the soil.

cool man, thats what i'll do then, thanks for all the info. the ph chems are in little dropper bottles and i bought another big bottle of the down and just fill the smaller dropper one, so you just squeeze a drop at a time. i'll be sure to check whenever i add anything also.

Definitely! The only thing is you might have to supplement calcium and magnesium I think it is..?? If you getting the fox farms trio though I don't think you will have to worry about it but I could be wrong.. A friend of mine is using straight distilled and hes getting great results, thats with the FF nutes too.
HEY CD, Aren't you using soil with some nutes already in it? Shouldn't that take care of any minerals that you miss out on due to bottled water? I just went back and looked at a pic of the soil ur using (you posted it in my thread) and there is calcium and magnesium in ur soil already.

yes i am, it does have small trace amounts in it, but everyone says use molasses for a booster i guess so i dont get those dam brown leaves again, LoL. makes your buds very sweet and good after a proper dry and cure.

40 drops of ph down to get to 6.6? what kinda ph down you using? i also use tap water and mine also comes out around a ph of 7-8. but it only takes me 5 drops in 1 gallon of water to get down to ph 6. im using general hydroponics ph down. i ph at 6 cuz i use coco coir.

i would recomend General hydroponcs ph down but i know you dont like going to them hydro stores. its super easy to use, i bought 1 quart for a couple dollars. and in the 3 months (maybe even longer) ive been using it i have only managed to knock down 15% of the bottle.i use it 8 times a week and i still have enought for a bunch of grows.

well, im ordering my fox farm trio on ebay friday, so maybe i'll get a bottle from there while im at it.

its day 3 for the little ones and there coming along nicely. choo choo is a little behind rocky but im sure in a few days there will be no difference.

my veg box ranges from a low of 73 up to 86 and the humidity is 20 to 30% right now. lights off, low temp, high humidity. lights on, high temp, low humidity. which is to low for vegging. it went down to 46 here over night and the humidity was high, about 70%. now its 71 and the humidity is less than 30%. kinda like in the box. with the lights on, the humidity goes way down, with them off, it goes up. i just put a pie pan full of water in there to see if i can raise the humidity some.

I have a sling psychrometer I use to get TRUE humidity readings in my grow area and I've found that adding a wet towel in the room, with fans moving the air, ups the humidity levels much greater than just sitting a bowl of water in there. Thats my 2 cents anyways.
Hey CD, aint it nice that it's finally not hot as hell every damn day down here? I've been loving our weather!

CD masscom is correct, i experimented with this and i stuck half of the towel in a cup of water and the other half hanging outside the cup. and the humidity shot up. but every so often you have to either put a new towel in there or take the towel out of the water and let it dry up so you can repeat the process. but it does work. at least from my experience.

I'm serious about the wet towel with a fan blowing over it. It will give you much greater results. I promise!

The towel creates way more surface area than a pan of water. I've used wet hydroton in a bucket and works well too. I think as long as you have a large amount of surface area for the water to evaporate from you'll get a +humidity
