4t or 5th node topping

Can anyone tell me in simple terms the difference between tipping at 4th node or 5th in terms of how the plant will turn out when it's mature. Is one better better than the other?

Articles generally say waiting till the 5th node to top because of root development. Once you top, it sets the plant back ever so slightly as it recovers and resumes normal veg. It's said to wait till the 5th node to allow for adequate time for the plant to become established, thereby reducing the 'down time' from topping. A larger, healthier plant will recover quicker then a smaller less established plant. Obviously.
If the plant is healthy, it doesn't matter. You can top it after the first node growth if you want... It all depends what your end goals are.... Theres all kinds of diff methods and practices people use so sometimes topping at 4 nodes is better for someone and topping at 5 or 6 or whatever is better for someone else growing a diff way, or not topping at all and just bending it over....

OK thanks for the info. What would be the end goal of topping at 4 be though? Compared to 5th node?

I usually top my plants just under the 5th set of true leaves. I make sure that I leave enough of a stub above the fourth set to help hold the stem together. Once I cut it too short and with the weight of the extra colas above the cut it split the main stem. I taped it but it ended up with a hole in the stem.

I usually top early after the 4th or 5th node but decided to try something different this round. I've Iet them grow out to 10 nodes, topped back to the 8th and removed the bottom, stunted node. We will see how it pans out as I have pre flowered but haven't really entered stretch yet, should be time to recover well. Topped two days ago at day 23.

Still thinking i should have topped earlier as I've only got 1.5m worth of height to work with.

I think you're looking at this too hard.
There's a million diff ways to run a plant. Top whenever you feel the need to. Topping just makes the plant grow a diff shape.
