4OO WATT hps why so small yield?

Well i think that is never enough light. So only problem is heat.Try 2 400hps at firs see how it goes if you dont have heat problems or you can regulate example i am using 400watt in closet 2x2x5 and i have window in my room next to my closet outside is -20 so i just open it a bit and have temperature between 70-80f (23-28c)anyway in your case i would put as much as i can as long as the heat is not problem but trust me without a cool tube and proper ventilation it will get very hot...i have problems i dont have cool tube i just have fan blowing the air directly on my plant and light and it getting really hot i have to leave window open all the time to balance it.

i have cool tube reflectors, heat is not an issue..im thinking of buying new reflectors w the 6inch intake and exaughsts but taking out the glass as ive heard the glass really diminishes ur light..

A 400 watt light can put on a lot of production. I am not sure you can safely LST at this point without damaging the main stem. This would be very bad.

This sounds like a drastic maneuver but I think you could cut the main stems back to the fourth node down. Leave the flowers on that node. Sterilize your cutting tool first. Leave about an inch above what bud is there.

Move the light down.

If you can't gat ahold of mylar for the walls go to the hardware store and get some flat white paint. The cheaper the better. Paint the walls.

And, this is very important, get some good air circulation in there. Definitely put a fan on the these plants. If there is not enough air moving around oxygen will form in pockets under the leaves preventing them from taking in CO2.

Don't doddle. Get these things done all at once so as not to prolong any shock to the plants. Get these done and you have a good chance at some very decent production. It wouldn't hurt to throw that LED/UFO in there as well. I think you still got 6 - 7 weeks to go so go for it.

So i am wondering why am i getting so small buds with 400watt hps?i will post pics this is 25days under 12/12light.I am posting this because i this is my second grow,my first grow was under 90watt led ufo (white widow x big bud) i grow it in soil and didnt use any nutrients nothing at all in 3gal pot so just soil and water once in 5-7days complete grow.it yield about 20g dry bud.So i wasnt satisfied with the yield (potency was real good considering i didnt use nutrients) any way i wasnt satisfied so i bought 400watt hps,bio thrive 4,3,3for veg and bloom 2,4,4 for flowering.i used 400watt hps for veg (didnt have mh) anyway i veg it 1 and half months before i switched to 12/12 i topped it after 3rd set of leaves.I am following the directions with the nutrients.Lights are 14inch above the tops. And i am completley unsatisfied with the look of my plant under this light...To be honest i think that 90watt led would produce the same amount of buds (maybe even more) if i used nutrients with it...So i am wondering i need an expert advice what am i doing wrong?why does plant have so samll buds after almost 1month under 12/12?it there some trick or what?
Sorry about my English guys its my second language i hope you all understand me.
Strain:tga subcool 3rd dimension
Genetics + veg time + container size + light intensity = yield

dang the plant was topped twice at least but the the thing you did wrong was having the light too far from the plant, specially for a sativa strain they tend to stretch out double their size. Next time you should should try Low stress train it after you have topped them, and continue to train it until you create a nice little bush! experiment on your own, you will love the results. If you were going to use a HPS light, you should've completed your must-buy-bucket list. Don't go cheap on anything you really need bro, you won't get that good of a result if you do as you can see. :/

Looks like to me you have alot of stretch. Light not close enough maybe. Some training would help. I keep my 400 as close as possible and bend, pull, tie down try to make it bushy. I've had some nice grows wit the 400..u should have alot more plant though thats for sure...just my 2 cents
