my idea behind doing it, is that it puts the plant (s) under stress thinking they are fully dying and as a result protect themselves through a defence mechanism by coating herself with THC?

It would be great if it worked that way, but it doesn't.
First, growing indoors the way we do (hard lights on, hard lights out, salts, hydro etc...) are all stressers in some way.
Two days of dark aren't going to change anything.
No matter what the bro-scientists say.

Well, honesty, my tent is in a room that's pretty dark to start with, so I'll assume the dark will indeed leak in but I've heard that dark-leaks make your plants extra super cis. Which makes sense given that light leaks give you herms.

Aside from the trolls, though. Check out this video with Dr. Bruce Bugbee. There's a lot of great topics but I timestamped the 48hr darkness part for you guys.


tl;dr - "When we say trich/terps are formed at night, that's not correct. They're synthesized out of the energy from photosynthesis. The photosynthetic energy makes sugars, especially sucrose, and that sucrose is used to make the terps/trichs. So if we put the plant in the dark, we're taking away the energy source to synthesize terpenes."
"... as a general rule, the terpenes are LESS when they're in the dark because they're respiring away all the sugar that can't make new terpenes because they're out of energy."

The only benefit of 48 hour ( whatever ) is allowing the grower to chop “ anytime “ . Plants do get a bit more fragrant , but chalk that up to them Shittin their pants cuz the Fiskers gonna cut them.

OP gonna do whatever fairytale they hear. Don’t forget to shock the roots with ice baths - silver stake blessed by a priest before hammering it into stalk , pissing in medium , banana water , and Mr. Canuck videos on a loop.
