Ok so, i have been doing some research over the last few years and the time has finally arrived. First Grow! yeah buddy! I am going into this with the mindset that this is a learning experience, filled with trial and error. Hopefully with the collective minds of this wonderful site, we can achieve greatness. I am open to critique and am appreciative of any direction in these early days of my learning this glorious craft.

what strain are you growing? what do you have for ventilation? what do you do for soil & nutrients? I am no professional but I know the basics of room design, if you have decent air flow and a good source of fresh air you are off to a good start!

those 3 are just bag seed for trial, i have about 30 on reserve in my drawer from attitude of different variety. god bless october special! i am in the process of uploading all the pictures of the closet, i spared little expense and ran insulated ducting from the portable a/c unit in the room through the wall and up through the attic and out. the light gives off alot of heat and i spent about two weeks getting a stable environment of around 79 degrees f and 40 percent humidity in the tent which is 5.5 ft tall 3 ft wide and 2ft deep. i also have 2 100wt cfls in the tent with the 400 wt mh now, just waiting for the babies to be big enough. i am going to try 2 different types of soil first. cactus, scotts and m.g. just to see how things go. of course about 10-15% perlite and i am also using a decent helping of "black kow" manuer which is garanteed not to burn roots and blood meal for veg mixed in. but it will be a week or so until they go in those pots

edit: i also have 4 widow skunks im trying the papertowel/ziplock method on(put them in sunday night) under the black container those 3 seedlings are in.

the biggest seedling is about two inches tall and the root was starting to stick out of the bottom of the germ cube so i put the cubes into seedling soil in these natural fiber cups and set them on their prospective pots that they will go into in a week or so. one is a cactus soil mixture, one is a scott's potting soil mixture, and the other is a miracle grow potting soil mixture, just to see what works best. they are now under the 400wt mh and two 100 wt cfl's. i have not determined how long i am going to leave them under light yet, as i have just put them in there about an hour ago and am waiting to see how they respond. ideas? comments? also i have put two water cups with saran wrap over them and holes punched due to a low humidity issue. any ideas on a better/safer/more efficient way of regulating humidity in an air conditioned environment?-99

anyone? ideas on how to raise humidity?

note: i figured it out. put a damp towel over my tower fan and it raised the humidity back up to 39-40%. beautiful.

so little has happened in the last few days. the four widow skunk seeds that i had originally started in the paper towel method, i transferred to the germination cubes in with the humidome. when i woke up this morning, there was life. all 4 have sprouted and looking good. my first 3 that are bag seed are doing great too! its day 4 and they are all just over an inch tall and around 5/8 at the leaves. i decided to put them a little closer to the light, since the temp is the same. i also started them on 18/6 last night, for two reasons. one: this is a trial and error grow, so i just want to see how they react. so far so good. two: the temperature in the room is easiest to naturally maintain with the light off from 3pm to 9 pm, being the hottest parts of the day in my house, so if they do just fine on 18/6 and show no signs of stress or slowing then 18/6 it is.

note: also, i abandoned the damp towel on the tower fan, its just not practical. so i put the bowl of water in as you can see by the pictures. i bought a humidifier, which i am still trying to figure out how to practically apply to this application due to its size, also just because even with the bowl in the tent, if the tent is closed the humidity will get down to 23% over an hour or so. so, for now i am keeping the tent half zipped and the closet door cracked. any other ideas?

edit 2: i forgot to mention, the temps last night got down to 73F @40%rh. im thinking that the rise in humidity at night may make up for the low, 23-30% range during the day.

this morning, the four widow skunks were pushing on the top of the humidome, on day two. they are going to be some fast growers i think. bagseed #3, which is my runt, was had fallen over. she still has good color and pigmentation, she just has a week stalk. any ideas? i gave them all some water so we shall see what happens.

busy day today. as posted earlier, b.s.3 was falling over this morning. i transplanted all 3 bag seed babies into their perspective pots. i had a funny feeling something was wron because all 3 had shown signs of slowing. come to find out the roots were not expanding into the starter soil, only binding between germ cube and the soil. maybe it was not damp enough when i put them into the pots originally? i dont know. since the transplant #3 appears to be regaining some stalk strength, but only time will tell if it was to much of a shock or not.

sorry pics not in order. the third picture is one of the widow skunks, the fourth is b.s #3.

going on day 3 for the widow skunk's and the biggest one as seen next to the measuring tape, is already 1.5 inches. thats a quarter inch taller than the bag seed runt that is 4 days older. fast little plants. #3 is back to normal, although has not really grown much. i did leave the light on 24/0 in hopes it would help the plant stand correct and have not turned it off. they seem to be doing great under 24/0, but the soil dries out very quickly and i have found myself spraying the soil and checking moistness with my soil moisture meter and have been spraying down under the plants as needed.

How much do any of you water your weeklings? also the humidity stays around 27-30% with 24/0 and temps @77-82F.
