Hi, Im on my first grow and I have a question about lighting. Is a 400wt HPS to much for a 6x3x3 cabinet? I know I will have to vent it well. I will be trying to grow 5 white widow plants. Any suggestions Thanks Alot!

if theres one thing i know its theres no such thing as too much light as long as its cool enough, if you dont have a problem with heat pack as many lights as you can...more useable liight= faster growth and bigger buds

good luck man

400 watt would be perfect for that size of area. Just take your sq footage (3'X3'=9 sq ft., exclude your height), so 9 sq ft. and multiply by the atleast 5000 lumens/sq. ft. that is ideal and you would need atleast 45,000 lumens. 400 watt hps puts off 50,000-55,000 lumens depending on your bulb. I've got a 400 watt and it's definitely worth it just make sure you have a good venting system for it to keep the heat down. All that light is worthless if the plants are just constantly heat stressed (I know that from experience)

Hey thanks for everyones input! Would it be possiable to switch out the 400 and put in a 600wt? Also will my size cabinet be large
enough for 5 plants or should i make it bigger. i just what to make sure I got enough light in there without worrying about heat. Thanks again

I would definitely go 600 if you can keep your temps down enough. That would be good for 5-6 plants. May want to consider some side lighting though

Yeah got everything built. My cabinet came out to be 6x4x4 with a 400hps 4 4ft fluorescents and two fans..... hope it works good!!!

My setups in a closet a lil smaller than that, or close to the same overall size(7x4x3). Im runnin a 400w hps alone with two fans, one's blowin right on the hood where the ballast is located. I even had to buy an ac to keep it cool in there. If u got all ur suplies, lights and such, I'd suggest setting it all up and taking temp readings to be sure u don't have any heat issues later.
