So if i understand correctly i need to put my mh on 50 percent brightness for two weeks then i can work it up from there? What would happen if i just went to a full 75 or 100 percent??

If I grow from seedlings using hid's I take styrofoam cups and poke holes in them with a pencil then put them over top of the seedlings so the light is defused some .

thank you alesh, it's still something I don't quite understand. My 200w cfl runs quite hot, and my 220w led runs very cool, both of them are touted as being equal to one 400w mh.
The temperature a lamp operates at is not the same thing as the rate of heat generated. Temperature is like voltage or pressure. Heat is energy, and power is the derivative of energy.

75° is where you wanna try to keep it .

there is no amount of artificial light that is "too strong" for a seedling, clones are a different matter. Set a thermometer on the soil and set the light at a distance so the soil temp doesn't exceed 80 degrees.
